Summary:

  • Performs a variety of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures. Is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishments of their imaging needs.

Responsibilities:

  • EQUIPMENT
  • Responsible for the utilization of Nuclear Medicine equipment to insure care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and the use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of equipment and films.
  • Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedures.
  • Exhibits skill sets to demonstrate proper use of equipment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of troubleshooting.
  • Comprehends and completes the established quality control on equipment
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Represents the hospital in a positive and professional manner.
  • Adheres and upholds PEOPLE standards according to the hospital
  • Shows compassion and kindness toward patients and family members.
  • Interacts professionally and effectively communicates with peers, physicians, patients, visitors and guests.
  • Participates in programs/committees beneficial to departmental, hospital and health system improvement..
  • EDUCATION
  • Possess knowledge and exhibits competency of procedures performed in the department and is able to appropriately respond to questions/concerns the patient or family may have.
  • Must attend all mandatory inservices and staff meetings to maintain competency training.
  • Assists in the training of students and ancillary personnel.
  • Must complete annual CPR certification.
  • Completes annual educational requirements
  • CLINICAL
  • Instructs and prepares patients for Nuclear Medicine examinations.
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
  • Assesses patient’s understanding of process and informed consent.
  • Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s conditions during exam.
  • Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.
  • Evaluates clinical history and consults with Radiologist/referring physician to determine appropriate study.
  • Produces adequate studies in a quick and efficient manner.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
  • Adheres to Nuclear Medicine procedures/protocols
  • Maintains ALARA standard
  • CLERICAL
  • Efficiently operates the RIS and PACS systems
  • Exhibits superior phone skills
  • Assists in maintaining basic records and reports
  • Assists in maintaining files
  • Maintains patients confidentiality at all times
  • Provides proper documentation for patient exams. For example: Orders, pregnancy, allergies, mobility,
  • diagnosis, DOB, referring physician
  • MANAGEMENT
  • Possess knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments.
  • Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.
  • Meets dress code standards: appearance is neat and clean
  • Maintains regulatory requirements
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled; completes work within designated time
  • Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties
  • Attends annual review and departmental inservices and meetings as scheduled.
  • Wears identification badge while on duty
  • Maintains a clean work area
  • Maintains consistent work flow
  • Maintains par levels for inventory and supplies
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
  • Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine equipment.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continues quality improvement activities
  • SAFETY
  • Demonstrates and maintains rules and regulations of local, federal, JCAHO and the State of
  • Pennsylvania
  • Adheres to safety program of Pennsylvania Hospital and the Department of Radiology
  • Is aquatinted with local fire and safety regulations

Credentials:

  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 1+ years Experience under a Board Certified Radiologist Maintain CEUs
  • Other (Required)
  • Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology Nuclear Medicine, either college attended or hospital trained
