Location: Plainsboro, NJ

Hours: 8 am - 4:30 pm - working every 4th weekend ( same hours)

Full-time/40 hours per week

Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist II interested in working the Day shift within Blood Bank. Join our team of educated, knowledgeable professionals in an environment that supports growth, learning, and professional development. Our Lab does streamlined automation and electronic cross-matching. We use software that assists with antibody identification.


Additionally, we transfuse about 250 products per month, and have an occasional Massive Transfusion Protocol or Neonatal transfusion. We test about 1,000 samples per month, including about 50 Antibody Identifications per month.


Position Summary:

  • Assist Department Section Supervisor in providing laboratory services to meet the needs of patients as ordered by the Medical Staff and performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices; as needed direct, supervise, and coordinate functions and activities in assigned divisions of the clinical laboratories.


Some job functions and duties will include, but are not limited to:

1. As needed, assist the Laboratory Section Supervisor in a variety of tasks relating to division operations, i.e. CAP testing, NACCL’s procedure, writing, etc.

  1. Review and monitor test findings obtained by laboratory personnel, check validity and accuracy of results in conjunction with CAP and HGFA requirements
  2. Do quality control and take appropriate action to insure variation in test results and standards are within acceptable quality control ranges
  3. Perform directly or assist staff technologists and technicians in performance of difficult or unusual studies and procedures. Act as a resource to laboratory and medical staff.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assume full responsibility as Acting Section Supervisor for the department in the absence of Designated Supervisor.

  1. Assist Section Supervisor in supervising assigned staff members.
  2. Assure high quality and accuracy of testing, results, and functions in the department.
  3. Assist Section Supervisor in the orientation and or training of new employees, medical students, employees of other hospital units, guests of the Medical Center, etc. Participate and conduct periodic in-service education programs.
  4. Perform work duties, fulfill requirements and carry out all job functions of a Medical Technologist I in assigned department, in addition to supervisory functions.
  5. Attend meetings (administrative, department, division) as required.
  6. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, outside conferences and professional affiliations.
  7. Perform other duties as required or directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological or laboratory science/medical technology science required

Related Work Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ recent experience in blood banking

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

    • MT (ASCP or NCA), MLS(ASCP), or previously qualified as Medical Technologist prior to 2/28/92 under 42CFR493.1427 (3/14/90)
