Organizational Development Consultant, Change Management

As an Organizational Development Consultant within Penn Medicine Academy’s change management practice, you will identify, develop and build organizational capabilities linked to business outcomes inside a highly complex academic medicine environment. This role possesses a mix of expertise in change management, high-performance team development, performance improvement, and strategic planning. Expectations include collaborating to drive change throughout Penn Medicine, facilitating group discussions that navigate difficult conversations, managing relationships with leaders and teams across the health system, and demonstrating strong project management skills. More specifically, you will partner with clinical and administrative leaders, including the Chief Medical Officers, Chief Quality and Safety Officers, Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Human Resources Officers, Department Chairs, and other leaders throughout Penn Medicine to support the design, development, implementation, and measurement of high-priority health system initiatives.

Accountabilities

Change Management Consultation:

o Identifies the ideal intervention required to impact business outcomes and makes recommendations.

o Designs and facilitates change management processes with leadership.

o Assists and guides management in taking actions and interventions to support improved performance.

o Conducts focus groups, facilitates meetings, and conducts individual interviews in order to provide data for the client to build a change plan.

o Follows through with management and executive sponsors on the implementation of recommended improvements.

o Partners with leadership for the purposes of identifying and developing improvement initiatives that address organization needs.

Large Scale Change Initiatives:

o Facilitates the design, development and implementation of large scale change initiatives. Contracts with outside vendors as needed.

o Provides small group project/process coaching.

o Designs and facilitates retreats as requested for team development, change planning and strategic planning.

o Develop transition strategy after large-scale change initiatives, including development of project plans and specified business outcomes.

Coaching:

o Provides one-on-one coaching to managers as requested by leadership or HR clients.

Data Analysis:

o Collects and presents basic data based on project need for example, change management needs and strategic plan current state summary.

Program Facilitation:

o Presents information, directs structured learning experiences, and manages group discussions and group processes according to agreed upon design.

o Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

o Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

 

Sr. Consultant, Change Management and Organizational Development

As a Senior Consultant within Penn Medicine Academy’s change management practice you will identify, develop and build organizational capabilities linked to business outcomes inside a highly complex academic medicine environment. This role possesses a mix of expertise in change management, high-performance team development, performance improvement, and strategic planning. Expectations include collaborating to drive change throughout Penn Medicine, facilitating group discussions that navigate difficult conversations, managing relationships with leaders and teams across the health system, and demonstrating strong project management skills. More specifically, you will partner with clinical and administrative leaders, including the Chief Medical Officers, Chief Quality and Safety Officers, Chief Nursing Officers, Chief Human Resources Officers, Department Chairs, and other leaders throughout Penn Medicine to support the design, development, implementation, and measurement of high-priority health system initiatives.

Accountabilities

Change Management and Organizational Development Consultation:

o Gathers and synthesizes data and drafts findings and strategic recommendations for the client to build an outcomes focused change plan.

o Partners with leaders relative to system wide changes to identify and develop improvement initiatives that address organization needs.

o Identifies the ideal intervention required to impact business outcomes and makes recommendations.

o Designs and facilitates change management at the system and entity level.

o Assists / guides management in taking actions and interventions to support improved performance. Provides one-on-one coaching on driving change as needed.

o Manages complicated inter-group dynamics with ease. Leverages key tools to drive improvement in overall team performance.

o Partners with other experts in the Penn Medicine Academy team (for example, leadership development and training) to provide high quality interventions in support of complex change initiatives.

Change Management and Process Improvement Data Analysis:

o Conducts appropriate approaches to collect data in order to quickly identify root cause; analyzes and summarizes data in concise, strategic, easy-to-interpret format.

o Generates current state and future state design, and develops supporting gap analysis including insight on rationale for current state of operations (e.g. fish bone diagram).

o Conducts analysis of large amounts of qualitative data.

o Summarizes/synthesizes large amounts of data in simple slide format and uses data to tell a story

• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

 

Minimum Requirements

Organizational Development Consultant, Change Management

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree is required

• 5+ years Change management or organizational development, with preferred experience in the healthcare sector or with a consulting firm is required.

• Master's Degree Business or Organizational Development is preferred

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Certification in at least two organizational development programs or assessment tools such as MBTI, Crucial Conversations, Emotional Intelligence, 360-degree feedback, HBDI, or GDQ is preferred.

• Certification in change management is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to use Microsoft Excel

• Ability to use Microsoft Power Point

• Ability to use Microsoft Word

• Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of change management theory and process.

• Ability to build rapport with clients and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

• Significant front of the room facilitation experience.

• Process consultation and organizational intervention planning.

• Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and learning design theory.

• Operational knowledge of process improvement methodology.

• Project management skills

Sr. Consultant, Change Management and Organizational Development

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree is required. (Organizational Development, Business Administration or Health Care preferred)

• 10+ years of Change management experience with health care sector or health care systems is required.

o Master's Degree (Organizational Development, Business Administration or Health Care preferred) with a minimum of 8+ years Change management and process improvement experience, with experience in the healthcare sector or health care systems may be considered)

• Demonstrated implementation experience with change management initiatives and process improvement is required.

• 5+ years of Demonstrated progressive experience in change management and process improvement consultation using methodologies and tools tied to change management and process improvement theory.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Certification in at least two organizational development programs or assessment tools such as MBTI, Crucial Conversations, Emotional Intelligence, 360-degree feedback, HBDI, or GDQ is required.

• Certification in change management is preferred

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to use Microsoft Excel

• Ability to use Microsoft Power Point

• Ability to use Microsoft Word

• Ability to build rapport with clients and interact effectively with all levels of the organization coupled with political savvy.

• Ability to partner with leadership in identifying and developing process and performance improvement initiatives that address organization needs.

• Ability to partner with, and guide, management in executing against actions and interventions to support improved performance and/or change.

• Proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects across a variety of stakeholders, appropriately navigating expectation management and prioritizing conflicts.

• Proven ability to aid leadership in addressing performance and process-related challenges through a systematic approach using Lean Sigma or Six Sigma.

• Proven ability to create and deliver content to improve understanding of key issues or data to a variety of organizational levels.

• Proven ability to gather and synthesize data from a variety of sources in order to generate meaningful insights for use in driving process improvement and change interventions.

• Ability to develop appropriate metrics to measure impact of change interventions and their effectiveness in driving successful change.
