There are 750 physicians and 1,000 nurses who provide excellent care to the approximately 23,000 inpatient admissions, 22,500 surgical procedures, 5,000 births, 33,000 emergency room visits and 85,000 outpatient visits annually.
We are seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead a Nursing organization that provides integrated, effective and innovative patient care that reflects the rapidly changing healthcare environment. As CNO, you will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team and work seamlessly with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Executive Committee and other clinical leaders to deliver highest quality, compassionate nursing care and services. You will be transformational leader, who fosters constructive partnerships and collaborative relationships within a complex health organization, across Penn Medicine and The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine and School of Nursing.
In this key leadership role as CNO, you will be responsible for strategic and operational oversight for the Nursing professional practice across all PAH settings, specifically, accountable for Inpatient, Ambulatory, Behavioral Health and Perioperative service lines. You will provide leadership for clinical operations and set high and continuously improving standards of quality care, treatments and services to patients. In this key leadership role, you will have oversight of the practice areas that impact PAH's magnet designation (APRN, Cancer Center and assigned ambulatory practices). You will ensure the quality of care, treatment and services by incorporating evidence-based findings, nationally recognized professional standards and other relevant data into all policies, procedures and plans governing patient care and clinical services. Magnet Redesignation (2.0) in 2020.
As CNO, you are charged with helping develop and implement Pennsylvania Hospital's mission, strategic plans, patient care programs, budgets, resource allocations, operational plans and policies in collaboration with other key members of the hospital staff, including leaders from the governing body, management, medical, nursing and other clinical staff. You will lead a Magnet hospital and facilitate redesignation as part of Penn Medicine’s world class organization.
The CNO at Pennsylvania Hospital holds an appointment at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
· Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Nursing, Master's degree required, Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field strongly preferred
· 8+ years senior progressive leadership and healthcare experience in a hospital setting
· Experience in multiple health delivery settings, including community and academic hospitals with line responsibility
· Experience in administration, management and finance
· Active membership and demonstrated engagement in professional organizations such as AONE, PONL, etc.
· Active Registered Nurse license in State of Pennsylvania
· Ability to assess clinical, operational and educational needs of patients and nursing staff
· Demonstrated ability to recommend and coordinate improvement opportunities across multiple constituencies
· Evidence of effectiveness in translating research-based interventions into effective clinical practices
· Demonstrated success in clinical nursing research
· Demonstrated understanding of academic nursing and ambulatory care nursing required
· Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary educational and practice initiatives
· Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
