  • Serves as a senior leader on the management team for the Sub-Acute & Therapy Services (SATS) Division of the Penn Medicine at Home (PMAH) Entity and also as Regional Lead for grant work. This role is accountable to do the following at a system level for UPHS:
  • leverage SATS Networks for best outcomes
  • "hardwire" care pathways for consistent results
  • develop clinical "standard work" for reliability
  • develop timely and seamless transitions of care
  • leveraging SATS Programs for best outcomes
  • facilitate continuous improvement initiatives
  • regional lead for LTC RISE/SATS; oversight of day-to-day operations/ work performed by the regional teams; evaluating options for value add enduring work as dyad to Administrative Lead for grant
  • Partners with other senior leaders within the Entity and Division to develop strategies related to SATS that are tightly aligned with UPHS strategic imperatives at a system, regional and entity level. Establishes operating plans to convert strategy into a highly reliable work process that can be measured and monitored to assess meaningful impact. Provides expertise and drives improved performance in all areas of owned, partially owned, affiliated or network sub-acute and therapy services. SATS includes but is not limited to long term care (SNF, PCH, ALF, CCRCs, etc.), inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long term acute care hospitals, outpatient therapy, acute therapy and inpatient therapy. It also includes developing and maintaining symbiotic relationships with internal/external stakeholders of UPHS' SATS. Finally, but foundationally, the senior leader is accountable for development and maintenance of a highly effective work culture for SATS and its reputation within Penn Medicine and among external stakeholders.


  • Supports the successful performance of Post-Acute Networks (PANs) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) for UPHS; providing the operational link between acute, inpatient and ambulatory levels of care within UPHS’s owned, partially owned, affiliated or networked partners in order to leverage PANs and ACOs for the best outcomes.
  • Establishes “hardwired” care pathways with related “standard work” that produce consistently exceptional outcomes/results. This includes ensuring timely, safe and seamless transitions of care included in a patient’s plan of care. Critical will be the develop of a methodology for real time monitoring of key performance indicators for immediate interventions necessary to ensure results meet or exceed targets and outperform related regional or national benchmarks.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to direct and indirect reports in a way that encourages both individual and team performance. Champion the shared culture and values by serving as a role model and holding the team accountable to do the same. Develop a methodology for continuous bi-directional feedback with the team on an individual and group level to ensure alignment of effort, recognition of performance and development of critical skills/competencies.
  • Collaborates in the development of new networks for SATS in support of UPHS’s general business and program development. This includes working internally with colleagues accountable for business as well as program development to ensure availability of the continuum of care including IRF, LTACH, SNF and therapy services; maintaining relationships with members of UPHS’s provider networks.
  • Establishes internal reporting and analytics to evaluate impact of area of accountability and guide operational or strategic response related to negative results. Also includes internal reporting to ensure alignment with and impact on Team, Entity and Service Line Key Performance Indicators (KPIs,). Reporting would also be used for collaboration externally with stakeholders.
  • Leads efforts to leverage administrative shared services within the entity to efficiently execute day-to-day operations for the lowest cost and best outcome. This includes but is not limited to Human Resources, Organizational Development, Finance, Strategic Decision Support, Marketing, Business Development and Communications.
  • Contributes to development of a multi-year strategic and operating plan for SATS in partnership with fellow Post-Acute senior leaders. The work will be informed by internal and external stakeholders as appropriate. The strategic and operating plan would be designed to advance Entity and Service Line goals. As part of the planning, they will also develop a related annual operating plan and budget with SMART goals to ensure laser focus and flawless implementation to achieve optimal results and high internal/external stakeholder satisfaction
  • Contributes to the development of a healthy and high performing work culture for SATS; serving as a role model in the development of strong inter-disciplinary collaboration within the entity but also with other programs, departments or entities internal to UPHS and externally as well.
  • Serves as the Regional Lead for the grant; working in a dyad with the Administrative Lead, to develop and operate the grant to achieve its stated mission while supporting critical strategic imperatives of UPHS.


    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Population Health or other related area of study required
    • Master of Business or Health Administration (Required)
    • Master's degree in MBA, MPH or similar preferred and 5+ years Ops leader in Sub-Acute or Post-Acute and 10+ years Progressive leadership advancement in accountability & scope within field Experience overseeing healthcare operations in the acute and post-acute segments Experience developing & implementing plans with the greatest impact & efficiency Experience developing & managing capital and operating budgets
