Description

Penn Medicine is dedicated to our tripartite mission of providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in the field of medicine. Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.

Today at Penn Medicine, someone will make a breakthrough. Someone will heal a heart, deliver hopeful news, and give comfort and reassurance. Our employees shape our future each day. Are you living your life's work?

PENN E-LERT is a telemedicine critical care program that utilizes state of the art technology to provide a sophisticated layer of innovative clinical support to the intensive care units (ICUs) throughout the UPHS enterprise. Clinicians reside at a distant location on Penn Medicine campus and thus deploy software technology, hardware technology, and trended data analysis to proactively identify impending or evolving patient problems, continually offering real-time clinical decision support, in collaboration with the bedside clinicians, on conditions that require immediate attention. PENN E-LERT clinicians are experienced in critical care with a telemedicine-ICU subspecialty skill set. In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to function as a bedside critical care clinician, the E-LERT clinician must possess high-level skills in communication, collaboration, decision-making, systems-thinking, and computer literacy, necessitated by the remote nature of the practice environment. The E-LERT position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The E-LERT position requires long periods of continued sitting or standing at a desk in an office setting. The E-LERT position requires communication with bedside clinicians via two-way camera technology. The E-LERT clinician must be confident, composed, responsive, and approachable when diligently interacting with patients, families, and bedside clinicians via two-way audio-video technology.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) practices in collaboration with the health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across continuum. The RCP provides direct care to patients who may range from infancy to geriatrics and maintains a competent level of knowledge and skill with providing direct care. The RCP demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based in physical, cultural, educational, safety, and age-specific considerations of assigned patients. The RCP complies with all regulation and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.

Responsibilities of the eRT include supporting the bedside RTs across the 6 UPHS Hospitals (HUP, PPMC, PAH, CCH, MCP, Cedar), responding to alerts and push button requests from the bedside, and supporting the UPHS Pulmonary Bundle.

Education/Minimum Requirements:

-The qualified candidate must be a graduate from an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited Respiratory Therapy Program (Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred).

-National registration by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and a Pennsylvania State License to practice Respiratory Care are required.
-Potential new employees from an outside institution must have 1-year post registry experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
-Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care is mandatory.
-Must pass internal certification for all areas of care (ICN, ICU, Acute Care) demonstrated by proficiency. The incumbent will demonstrate proficiency during the three-month probation period and at scheduled intervals.
