About the Unit:

Cupp 4 South is a 32-bed inpatient medical/surgical unit primarily serving the adult population of West Philadelphia. Patients cared for on this unit have a variety of medical related diseases including COPD, Crohn’s Disease, GI-related illnesses, diabetes, renal failure, sepsis, heart failure and pneumonia. The 4 south staff also specializes in providing quality care to a population of chronically ill Sickle Cell, and oncology patients.

Type: Full Time, Day Shift
Hours: 36 hours per week 


  • The certified nursing assistant is an integral member of the health care team who delivers quality care through collaboration and communication with team members. They work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse to support and assist the nurse in the delivery of quality care to patients and families. Some of the major responsibilities will include collection and reporting of patient data, incorporating organizational competencies of superior quality care and assuming responsibility and accountability for their role performance outcomes while supporting PPMC's Standards of Excellence. Demonstrates the Penn Medicine Behavioral Competencies in all interactions with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following: taking, recording and monitoring vital signs; lifting, turning and feeding patients; providing O2 therapy and reporting acute changes in ventilation and circulation; promoting infection control and safety by maintaining a clean and safe work and patient environment; meeting patients’ personal hygiene needs and assisting with ADLs; and making beds.


  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
  • Certified Nurse Aid (Required)
  • Must be a certified by the state of Pennsylvania as a certified nursing assistant or student nursing assistant- in lieu of certification, matriculated in an accredited ASN nursing program having minimally completed the nursing foundations/fundamentals clinical course with a 3.0 GPA overall and in the nursing major.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent, 
  • Graduate of a CNA program
  • CPR required (BLS through American Heart Society)
  • Must be a certified by the State of Pennsylvania as a CNA and have at least one year of prior experience in a hospital setting. May consider nursing students who have successfully completed a clinical rotation in their nursing program.
