Pathology

  • The Genomic Development Specialist performs a vital role in developing new clinical assays in the Division of Precision and Computational Diagnostics.  The Development Specialist will work closely with a team of laboratory professionals to design and perform experiments with the goal of implementing clinical assays that meet rigorous validation standards while promoting operational efficiency. The successful candidate will be meticulous in the performance of complex laboratory procedures, possess strong critical thinking and organizational skills, and communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Essential Accountabilities:
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders (clinicians, vendors, faculty, staff) to develop new clinical assays for the laboratory
  • Assists in construction of and adheres to realistic timelines for implementation of assays in development
  • Coordinates resources (IS support, vendor involvement, and wet lab participation) in order to ensure adherence to established timelines
  • Assists in the development of operating procedures and protocols for newly developed tests
  • Evaluates instruments, reagents, and supplies related to new test development
  • Clinical laboratory Activities
  • Contributes to training of laboratory personnel
  • Applies knowledge and skills to perform complex laboratory procedures in support of new test development
  • Follows laboratory policies and procedures related to pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventory levels of relevant supplies and reagents to support test development activities
  • Maintains confidentiality of health information on all patients
  • Quality Improvement
  • Participates in quality management and performance improvement activities
  • Identifies issues/factors that adversely affect test performance
  • As assigned, performs quality control activities and maintains documentation as required by regulatory agencies
  • Other Functions
  • Participate in the broader molecular community through presentations and publications in collaboration with faculty, staff, and trainees
  • Attend, participate, and facilitate Development meeting in the lab and in the division.
  • Attend and participate in other laboratory meetings
  • Participate in the teaching/training of technologists, MGP fellows, pathology residents, and medical students
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Molecular Development Assistant Director or Manager

Credentials:

    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • Master of Arts or Science (Required)
    • Molecular biology, genetics, or related field 4+ years Performance of molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities
    • Ph.D. (Required)
    • Molecular biology, genetics, or related field 2+ years Performance of molecular laboratory procedures with a focus on test development activities
