Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a full time Pathology Laboratory Associate to join the Histology department located in Plainsboro, NJ. The Pathology Laboratory Associate is an integral part of the hospital. They are uniquely positioned as liaisons to provide both administrative as well as limited non-technical support to both, our hospital colleagues as well as the patients. They are involved in registration, material acquisition and distribution (Surgical and non-surgical). They assist in the smooth operation of the Gross room and are responsible for CAP compliance for maintenance and operations of equipment in this area. They also aid in maintaining the database (reports and paperwork involved in all the surgical cases) in the hospital LIS system.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities are varied and opportunities to learn and grow/ advance are just as many! The ideal candidates would have to be highly motivated with attention to details and have good organizational skills. We are a service-oriented industry hence efficient time management skills are a key component in this position.

  1. Perform, electronic registration including verification of demographic, insurance & physician information.
  2. Retrieve, process requests for materials (slides, reports for outside consults, second opinions and litigation.
  3. Maintain accurate tracking records of material across the system.
  4. Prepare material (slides, reports and other related documents) for tumor board and conferences.
  5. Execute Front office processes including answering phone calls with courtesy and professionalism. Provide positive customer services and aid resolving of issues as they arise across the entirety of the scope of laboratory services.
  6. Maintain and execute efficient time management skills consistently and have good organizational skills.
  7. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of clerical and stationary for the entire laboratory.
  8. Perform other laboratory responsibilities as assigned by the section supervisor.

What We Require for this Role:


  • Advanced medical or science courses REQUIRED
  • College work in Allied Health, Life Science, or Laboratory Science a PLUS
  • Associate’s degree PREFERRED.

Related Work Experience

  • 2-4 years experience in a healthcare-related setting REQUIRED
  • 5-8 years experience in a clinical laboratory setting will be considered in lieu of advanced coursework.
  • Experience with Cerner Millenium LIS - PREFERRED
  • Experience with EPIC HIS - PREFERRED
