Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.Acting under the general direction of an Engineering Supervisor, the HVAC/R Mechanic performs a wide variety of duties, the purpose of which is to repair, maintain and/or enhance the physical operation of the facility and its components.
In order to have successfully reached the position of HVAC/R Mechanic, the individual must exhibit the skills and capabilities to perform the same duties as a Maintenance Mechanic, (see Job Description – Maintenance Mechanic A.)
In addition to being responsible for all general duties of a Maintenance Mechanic, the following list of duties would apply. This is not intended to be an exclusive listing.
1. Troubleshooting – to evaluate any appropriate maintenance problem and take action or actions to correct said problem in an efficient and professional manner as it would apply to the HVAC/R trade. Add comments Meets Does Not Meet
2. Mechanical – apply knowledge of and demonstrate proficiency in all phases of Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
a. Inspection and Preventive Maintenance – includes filter cleaning/changing, lubrication, bearing checks, leak tests.
b. Diagnosis and troubleshooting – includes schematic and blueprint reading/interpreting, control work.
c. Repair and Maintenance – includes soldering, brazing, welding, electrical circuit repairs, repacking or replacing valves, replacing motors, replacement of refrigeration, insulation.
d. New Installation – sizing estimating, installing, modification.
e. Operating – including chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration and freezing units, air handling and heating units, and related controls, D.X. units, A/C units.
f. Record Keeping – includes PM records, repair lists, parts, and service manuals, and catalogs.
g. Requisition and Maintenance of Parts and Supplies – includes standard and hard to get parts and supplies.
3. Job Coordination – to apply knowledge of and demonstrate proficiency in coordinating a wide variety of job functions.
h. Scheduling activities with all appropriate departments and/or individuals.
i. Estimate time and material requirements.
j. Requisition materials and equipment.
k. Monitor and inspect work insure compliance with plans, specifications and regulations
4. Emergency duties –
l. Snow – removal of all ice and snow from areas owned and operate by The Medical Center.
m. Fire – respond and lend assistance to assure the safety of patients, visitors and the staff in the event of fire, including the proper use of fire extinguishers.
n. Natural Disasters – lend aid and assistance in the event of any disaster, Participates in disaster plan.
Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience
· High School graduate, and/or four- (4) year apprenticeship required.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
· Eight (8) years HVAC/R experience or equivalent experience.
· Siemens Building Automation Experience - Preferred
