  • Oversee the daily operations of a group of Patrol Officers (Police), Security Officers, and Security Officer - Dispatchers generally on an assigned shift. This position represents a professional who is proficient in front line officer tasks while having other leadership responsibilities. Providing a safe and secure environment for our patients, visitors, staff, employees and facilities against the hazards of crime, fire, other emergencies, and trespassing. Will maintain decorum of persons and assist in the enforcement of hospital rules and regulations and Federal, State, and Local laws. Will also provide information assistance and directions to patients, visitors and staff, as necessary.


  • Provide oversite for an assigned shift as it relates to emergencies, security situations and staff.
  • Escalate issues that need to be addressed further. Provide service recovery as needed.
  • Schedule department staff and maintain safe coverage of the hospital. Assign work assignments and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Ensure members of the Department are properly trained and prepared to handle duties and responsibilities of their jobs.
  • Provides specific feedback, coaching and corrective action when necessary.
  • Assist with initial and annual performance appraisals as assigned.
  • Maintain working relationships with all hospital departments.
  • Gather metrics, create, and maintain monthly & annual reports, as directed.
  • Responsible for providing a safe environment for patients, employees, and visitors.
  • Provides protection for the interior and exterior of the hospital, the hospital campus, and off-site locations (as directed).
  • Responds quickly and calmly to emergency codes and security situations. Restores calm as needed.
  • Provide security and safety to behavioral health staff and patients.
  • Provide outstanding service excellence skills demonstrating our ICARE values and Culture of Belonging.
  • Intervenes with physically aggressive individuals and resolves issues with good conflict resolution skills
  • Screen all hospital staff and visitors for appropriate identification and establish access level.
  • Identifies, investigates, and files the appropriate reports for unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Conducts investigations and completes reports.
  • Coordinates after hour visitor procedures.
  • Patrol the parking areas to ensure compliance with established parking policies and, when necessary, issue parking citations for non-compliance.
  • Assist with the production of hospital identification badges.
  • Assist with the movement of decedents in the morgue.
  • Serve as a liaison between hospital and police, funeral directors, coroner agents, and/or other community members.
  • Survey the property to see if hazardous situations are evident (employee, visitor, and safety).
  • Maintain confidential information.


  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Healthcare Security & Saftey (Required)
  • IAHSS Advanced Certification within one year of employment
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • CPR/First Aid Training within first 90 days.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • At least 3 years of Municipal, State, Federal, or Campus/Hospital Law Enforcement experience, preferred. Ability to pass any required pre-employment Physical Fitness, Psychological, Background and Drug Testing examinations. Meets the requirements of PA Act 501 (Private Police Act) PA Act 235 (Lethal Weapons Training Certification) or ability to obtain within first 90 days. PA Act 120 (Municipal Police Academy) or equivalent, preferred. Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH) Certification within first 90 days. Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT) Certification within first 90 days. Personal Protection Baton Tactics Training (PPBT) Certification within first 90 days. Personal Protection Control & Defense (PPCD) Certification within first 6 months. TASER Certification within first 6 months. Verbal Judo Training within first 6 months of hire. Police Supervisory In-Service Training (POSIT) within one year of employment.
  • Associate of Arts or Science
  • Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, preferred.
