Counsel patients on therapeutic diets and wellness nutrition. Serve as resource for information on complementary and alternative nutrition modalities. Calculates enteral feedings and assists with ordering supplies. Lead the nutrition component of any programs, such as support groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Meets with patients to perform comprehensive initial and follow-up nutritional status assessments.
Develops and recommends nutrition care plan that will maintain or improve patients’ nutritional status to tolerate cancer treatments and/or improve overall nutritional status. Adept with symptom management during treatment. Exercises judgment to revise nutrition plans as required. Involves patient and family in development of nutritional care plan.
Monitors and evaluates nutrition plan through assessment, one-to-one counseling, communication with health care providers to attain maximum level of well-being and energy for patient.
Serves as a member of the patient care team as appropriate.
Helps coordinate Cancer Center workshops and seminars, participating as a speaker, as assigned.
Possess outstanding interpersonal and problem resolution and communication skills.
Education Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or completion of American Dietetic Association’s didactic education requirements. Two years of clinical experience in patient service role. Good knowledge base of enteral and parenteral feedings. Familiarity with cancer patient experience is desirable.
Licensure/Certification
Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in Pennsylvania.
