Job Summary:

  • The CPUP Quality Data Analyst gathers, integrates and analyzes healthcare data from various sources within the organization to support organizational quality/performance improvement efforts. The individual must have an understanding of healthcare operations and quality and safety processes. 
  • Additionally, the Quality Data analyst should have:
    • 1-3 years prior experience in health care data analysis and visualization methods to drive clinical and operational process changes which can lead to improved patient outcomes
    • Knowledge of Enterprise Data Warehouse and data management systems
    • Proficiency in SQL and analysis tools, data integration processes
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to present information in a concise and effective manner and tailor messaging to a specific audience (e.g., physicians, senior management, department directors and managers, as well as front line staff.)
    • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with leadership and internal teams to implement and evaluate improvements
    • A BS/BA in Health Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Provides data analysis

Responsibilities:

  • Gather and integrate raw data from multiple disparate sources and translate data into meaningful, actionable, information.
  • Assist in data gathering and submission of data associated with Department of Health, Joint Commission / NPSG, Vizient, Medicare (MIPS).
  • Utilize data visualization tools, such as Tableau. Present and explain information in clear and actionable ways to various audiences, including producing statistical process control charts (SPC) utilizing products such as MiniTab or QI Macros.
  • Assist with the implementation of process changes to improve the quality and accuracy of data captured by systems.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret data collected from monitoring activities to identify opportunities for improvement based on data analysis and inform the Quality and Safety strategic plan.
  • Act as application resource expert for quality and patient safety.
  • Ability to assist other team members in resolving problems and performing data analysis.
  • Ability to work with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and iteratively to develop solutions.
  • Serve as site administrator for PMSN (RL).
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization  

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required), preferably in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Statistics, Computer Science or another related field.
  • General understanding of Performance Improvement processes, including lean methodology. 
  • Knowledge of quality management/performance improvement/patient safety. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. 
  • Experience in Health Care data analysis using data sources such as Epic, Midas, Vizient, RL Solutions, etc.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others
  • Experience in developing and presenting analytics reports
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations and data structures and the use of information system applications in the practicing healthcare environment
  • Experience working on team projects
  • Advanced Computer competencies n the applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, graphics and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to use basic SQL to perform data extraction and manipulation
  • Detail-oriented problem solver with an inquisitive nature
  • Experience turning data into executive dashboards and reports
