Summary:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and initiatives of the Measey Surgical Education Program, an innovative surgical education program developed to engage junior medical students in the practice of surgery. Responsibilities include coordinating all medical student and resident educational activities in the program. The education coordinator will organize and implement the application process, the education program and the evaluation of>40 medical students and residents who participate in this intensive one-on-one learning experience. The ideal candidate is extremely organized, detail oriented, has experience working in higher education and has an interest in public health programming as the Measey Surgical Education Program is situated in the Center for Surgical Health (CSH), an academic-community partnership which supports, educates and advocates for vulnerable members of our community with surgical disease. As a result, it is critical for the education coordinator to be passionate about the mission, interested in program activities and committed to developing partnerships within the Philadelphia community to improve surgical health. Please note that this is a three-year grant-funded position and consistent renewal of the grant is anticipated.     Responsibilities:

    Coordinator of Medical Student – Resident Curriculum 

     Develop materials for training programs and schedule speakers; Organize educational conferences, resident education training program, program orientation and student & resident feedback sessions 

     Schedule lectures, group activities, one-on-one tutoring sessions and standardized patient program 

     Prepare goals and objectives for each Measey Surgical Education Module

    Community Collaboration 

     Develop standardized operating procedure with community partners

     Coordinate community-facing program (module 6) 

     Ensure constant communication between the Center for Surgical Health and Measey Surgical Education Program community partners

    Education Liaison 

     Communicate regularly with Administration at the Perelman School of Medicine, Penn Medicine Teaching Faculty & Residency Coordinators regarding resident and medical student program 

     Address questions and concerns from medical students and residents 

     Attend education coordinators meetings with the Medical School 

    Administrative Responsibilities 

     Maintain Measey Surgery Education Program website and social media account 

     Participate in Measey Surgery Education Program medical student interview day 

     Responsible for all day-to-day communication with medical student and resident participants 

     Responsible for annual reporting to Measey foundation 

     Provide assistance to the Manager as needed  

      Education or Equivalent Experience:

      Bachelor’s Degree Required (Education, Public Health)

      Master’s Degree Preferred (Public Health, Education, Organizational Leadership)

      Required Skills and Abilities

       Effective use of personal computer, laser printer, photocopier, and fax machine

       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Exel, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus 

       Basic website knowledge preferred. Knowledge of Wix editing software and basic understanding of social media platforms and practice a plus 

      Must possess strong administrative, verbal, and written communication skills x Must be extremely organized and detail oriented 

      Strict confidentiality must be maintained in all personnel related activities 

      Must be flexible and have the ability to work with frequent interruptions and be able to adapt workflow as necessary to complete unscheduled projects and demands, pressure to meet deadlines may be experienced

      Effectively communicates and ensures understanding of UPHS’ mission, vision, and values

      Exemplifies in his/her/their actions, principles of collegiality and collaboration at all times
