General Summary Statement

Under the direct supervision of the outpatient pharmacist the outpatient technician is responsible for the technical operations of the outpatient pharmacy including filling outpatient prescriptions, maintaining medication inventory, unpacking the daily wholesale order, removing expired medications and assisting patients at the pharmacy counter. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the outpatient employee technician may work in the inpatient pharmacy and is responsible for the preparation and distribution of all inpatient medications including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations. Responsible for preparing IV admixtures using aseptic technique.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Accurately enters outpatient prescriptions in computer system.

2. Fills prescriptions accurately to be checked by the pharmacist.

3. Maintains appropriate inventory and enters wholesaler order daily.

4. Completes monthly controlled substance inventory with pharmacist.

5. Pulls expired medications and places in inpatient pharmacy.

6. Restocks all areas of the outpatient pharmacy as necessary. Checks for outdates monthly.

7. Maintains a clean and organized work area.

Education Training and Experience

High school diploma. Experience in a retail setting preferred but not required. Certification not required but preferred.

 Licensure/Certification

Pa certification preferred
