Senior Project Manager

Summary:

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the Enterprise Access Governance Committee, and corresponding Access workgroups and projects. In addition, this role will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all special projects under the guidance of the Patient Access leadership team. The incumbent will liaise with key stakeholders across the system, to successfully plan and implement various initiatives that achieve the strategic access goals of the enterprise as defined by Access Governance and executive leadership. The incumbent will achieve this by applying his/her project management skills to define the project scope, build and manage project plans, lead the project team goals and ensure task completion and issue resolution. The incumbent is responsible for meeting the project's strategic, operational, and financial goals while promoting a co-operative environment of open communication and mutual respect among all team members. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness, and creativity, and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization. The Senior Project Manager must have a working knowledge of performance improvement methodologies, effective interpersonal skills, be able to establish good working relationships, collaborate with networks of employees at all levels in the organization, be able to foster cooperation in others, and be a creative problem-solver.

  • Takes the lead on projects assigned by providing active and visible leadership on initiatives.
  • Engage with key stakeholders on behalf of the Patient Access leadership team, and follow up on relevant Access governance priorities that warrant continued engagement.
  • Managing projects independently and applying sound judgment in resolving project challenges.
  • Tracking requests and working with team leadership to triage and prioritize work.
  • Serving as primary point of contact and team representative to Enterprise Access governance and additional entity groups and workgroups.
  • Working with stakeholders to identify potential issues or opportunities and develop data-driven work plans to address them.
  • Overseeing analysis consistent with the work plan.
  • Working with team leadership to vet analysis and ensure analysis quality.
  • Coordinating with team leadership and others, as assigned, to ensure analytics are aligned with team and system imperatives.
  • Working with team leadership to build consensus around key actions arising from their analysis.
  • Acts as an active and visible leader within the team, including management and mentoring of less experienced analysts.
  • Supports maintenance and improvement of project and department specific data, analytics, and reporting infrastructure as directed by team leadership.
  • Establishes and maintains key relationships across the institution to ensure an ‘all inclusive/collaborative’ work style where all stakeholders feel their voice is heard and valued.
  • Has solid political instincts.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree Healthcare, Finance, Business Admin, Management, or related field required.

5+ years of Business or Healthcare experience, including 2 years of project management experience required.

Master's Degree Healthcare, Finance, Business Admin, Management, or related field preferred.

PMP Certification preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Required:

Demonstrated experience in evaluating, managing the development of, and implementing projects.

Demonstrated experience managing programs consisting of multiple projects and project teams.

Demonstrated experience working with business and clinical management at the highest levels of an organization.

Ability and experience coordinating the activities and deliverables of staff on a project team from various areas of an organization.

Demonstrated experience in the use of project management tools and methodologies (project plans, work breakdown structures, testing artifacts, go-live planning etc).

Ability to deliver clear and concise product presentations and to write clearly and effectively.

Preferred:

Demonstrated knowledge and application of Program/Project Management disciplines in a complex Quality and Patient Safety or Clinical Systems environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of health care operations and systems.

Working knowledge of applications development, database management and operating systems.

Strong business analysis skills, specifically with business and functional requirements development.
