Summary:

  • This position is responsible for supporting the Radiology department as it relates to front end billing issues, billing exceptions and edits, insurance follow-up and all contracted payment accounts. The scope includes all professional and hospital services (diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical) performed or billed through Penn Medicine. The role scope includes management and analysis of various spreadsheets and metric reports. Performs daily charge reconciliation and ensures all services are posted to the appropriate department in a timely manner. Follow up with IS to identify root cause of discrepancies. Work with all departments to maintain a high level of charge integrity, maintain expected charge lag, and enhance reimbursement and decrease denials. Maintains weekly/monthly modality stats and audit reports.
  • Provides overall support and management of assigned quality improvement activities, as well as, department edits and queries. Enters charges and/or charge corrections into the appropriate system. Audit reports and communicate trends or denials to leadership as assigned. Works with multiple teams to ensure the achievement of the strategic and operational objectives of the group. Work with all departments to maintain a high level of patient data integrity, enhance reimbursement, decrease patient wait time, and address any and all patient revenue/reimbursement issues. Complies with health system policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility. Determines opportunities for improvement and recommends process improvements to affect change in order to achieve revenue cycle best practices and ensure consistency and compliance throughout the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize health system tools to monitor charges, metrics, revenue and denials to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement of services rendered.
  • Gather and review team metrics and revenue capture. Research clinical determinations for new and existing services, including new technologies or pharmaceuticals.
  • Work closely with other teams to proactively identify, research and resolve issues or variances in expected volume or revenue.
  • Maintain and analyze various department spreadsheets and reports. Reports may include employee metrics, volumes, denial trends etc.
  • Support department leadership in maintaining digital and hard copy files.

Credentials:

    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
    • 5+ years Hospital or Practice Revenue Cycle Setting, working with insurance carriers and medical billing AAHAM Revenue Cycle Certification preferred
    • Associate of Arts or Science
    • Healthcare, Finance, Management, or related 3+ years Hospital or Practice Revenue Cycle Setting, working with insurance carriers and medical billing
    • Bachelor of Arts or Science
    • Healthcare, Finance, Management, or related 2+ years Hospital or Practice Revenue Cycle Setting, working with insurance carriers and medical billing
