The Department of Perioperative Services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Full-Time 2nd Shift Operations Manager.

Summary: 

The Perioperative Services department at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is responsible for the care of close to 55,000 procedural patients on an annual basis. The type of work that we provide includes, but is not limited to the inpatient and outpatient procedural areas consisting of approximately 220,000 square feet including the main operating room, PreOp, PACU, Ground White recovery unit, L&D operating rooms, Cath/EP lab & CRU, PCAM surgicentre, and PCAM endoscopy center. HUP PeriOp - 33 OR’s, 3 L&D OR’s, Cath/EP labs, CRU, PreOp, PACU, Ground White, Instrument Processing and Scope Processing, Staff Lounge and locker areas and Flyers- Sixers theater Perelman Surgi Centre – 8 OR’s PreOp and recovery units, Instrument Processing, Staff Lounge and locker areas, Cardiac cath and cardiac biopsy suites Perelman Endoscopy Center – 10 procedure rooms, PreOp and recovery units – Scope Processing, GI practice.   

At the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Perlman Center for Advanced Medicine, the Operations Manager is responsible for the management, leadership of support services to operations that include Technical Officers, Surgical Support Associates, Telemetry Transporters, and Environmental Services staff. Direct management and oversight for staff hiring, terminations, training and scheduling. The Operations Manager will provide assigned management, direction and support relating to dispatch, transport, cleaning and surgical support in all areas within perioperative services. The Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor and the Technical Officer are responsible for facilitating optimal patient flow through the entire PeriOp experience. Responsible for related compliance, including but not limited to: payroll, leave of absence, worker's compensation and consistent application of hospital policies and continued education. Responsibilities: Directly responsible for the management of the supervisors who manage the coordination of the PeriOp support staff. Assumes the responsibility to be the main point of contact in terms of OR operations and flow over a 24/7 period Responds to requests for service from ALL staff in a professional and cooperative manner (anesthesia, surgeons, nurses, etc) to meet patient care needs Interface with external customers – patient care units, respiratory therapy, physical plant, clinical engineering, materials management, etc. Emphasizes and models a culture of service excellence. Directs all technical officers for consistent application of process that support optimal patient flow through the entire PeriOp experience. Directly responsible for the management of the staff who support the turnover for all operating rooms and procedure rooms. Includes between case cleaning, end of day cleaning and movement of case specific equipment. Direct management of the transport and telemetry transport staff who provide transportation of patients, specimens, supplies and equipment for all PeriOp areas. Maximizes use of dispatching system to capture all requests for service and provide resources to meet requests. Audit work process for support staff for quality improvement. Manages specific groups of equipment for PeriOp patient care. • Oversees management and movement of PeriOp stretchers across all PeriOp areas. • Oversees communication / reporting and movement of broken OR tables and stretchers. • Oversees movement of equipment to / from OR’s and back to / from storage locations. Directly responsible for the management of the staff who support the terminal/ cycle cleaning of all operating rooms and procedure rooms. Direct management of the staff who perform daily and project cleaning across the entire department. Emphasizes a culture of service excellence Audit work process for EVS staff for quality improvement. Manages resources efficiently and cost effectively. Shares responsibility for ensuring compliance with TJC environment of care standards. Maintains work schedules, time cards, payroll for direct reports. Manages payroll and supplies budgets Effectively identify and acknowledge when demands exceed resources and f activities. 

Education or Equivalent Experience: 

Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field, 2+ years previous supervisory/management experience, and 2+ years experience in a Healthcare setting and in stocking & inventory. (Required) 

OR 

High School Diploma or GED, 7+ years experience in a Healthcare setting and stocking & inventory, and 2+ years previous supervisory/management experience. (Required)
