Summary:
- Under the direction of a radiologist, performs high quality diagnostic imaging examinations using ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment of patients in a safe and timely manner, as ordered by physicians. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs all relevant therapeutic and diagnostic testing associated with the Nuclear Medicine service, in compliance with all departmental and governmental regulations (DEP / NRC). The N.M.T. will assume "on-call" status according to the needs of the Department.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical:
- Performs all necessary checks for accuracy of the prescription, precertification/authorization if required by individual insurance companies, EPIC order and patient identification.
- Assists the patient in the emotional and physical needs (based on age) for specific nuclear medicine procedures. Explains procedures to each patient prior to initiation of test. Provides for and assesses patient comfort and safety prior to, during, and after completion of test.
- Perform nuclear medicine procedures following appropriate imaging protocols under the direction of the radiologist.
- Ability to start, monitors, and remove IV’s.
- Preparation /Administration of all applicable radiopharmaceuticals as related to specific testing protocols.
- Obtains patient history, explains the procedure, gains consent for contrast material administration and address any patient concerns prior to beginning the procedure.
- Compiles and reviews images, provides applicable comparison studies, and prepares documentation for the interpretation
- Clean, adjust and perform routine maintenance on equipment; stock and replenish supplies as required
- Must be able to operate all nuclear medicine / CT equipment such as gamma camera, computers, SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems and radiopharmacy equipment
- Quality:
- Performs, evaluates, and documents QC based on established department protocols on all cameras, instruments, or computer systems.
- Follow radiation safety guidelines as required by state and NRC regulations. Understands and follows ALARA and QMP programs.
- Performs, evaluates, and documents all surveys, wipes, and dosing in accordance with department protocols.
- Oversees all compliance and documentation.
Credentials:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
- Nuclear Medicine Tech Cert Board (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Associate of Arts or Science (Required)
- Nuclear Medicine Radiology Technology Program
- Bachelor of Arts or Science
- Nuclear Medicine Radiology Technology Program
