Summary:

  • The Surgical Technologist Lead demonstrates the ability to deliver safe and effective care to patients under the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator, Registered Nurse and/or Physician throughout the Perioperative experience.
  • Primary functions of the Surgical Technologist Lead are to be proactive to assure all required supplies are needed for service-line cases, collaborate with Sterile Processing, the ISC and Clinical Nurse Coordinator. Function as key clinical liaison for case cart completeness and facilitation, in addition to assisting with service-line specific trays being returned complete and accurate.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports patient rights and upholds the ethics of the organization. Manages information appropriately and participates in surveillance, prevention, and control of infection.
  • Participates in clinical care as necessary. Participates in the assessment of patient care by recognizing and reporting signs of intraoperative complications and emergencies to surgical team. Demonstrated ability to deliver safe and accurate care to patients throughout the perioperative experience under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or physician.
  • Is proactive to assure all required items (implants, supplies, equipment and personnel) are in place prior to the scheduled operative case. Identifies scheduling conflicts and resolves proactively.
  • Responsible for securing general supplies, instrumentation, case cart accuracy, case cart facilitation and other case specifics. Collaborate with Sterile Processing, ISC and Clinical Nurse Coordinator to streamline sets/tray lists.
  • Facilitates the continuum of care by collaborating to provide patient care that is appropriate for the age and developmental level of the patient. Participates in managing environment of care.
  • Participates in improving organizational performance. Demonstrates professional qualities, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
  • Functions as key liaison, in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Coordinator, to Sterile Processing and ISC. Collaborates with all member of surgical team to facilitate case flow. Assist with service-line specific trays being returned complete and accurate.
  • Departmental and hospital annual mandatory education is completed by end of current review period. Promotes and demonstrates self-directed learning and interest in occupational growth.
  • Help to maintain clear hallways, keep items away from emergency equipment, and return unused carts and supplies. Function as a resource to staff on how to treat, care and decontaminate OR equipment and instrumentation.

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  •  Surgical Technologist Certification by entity holding a Nationally recognized Institutional or program accreditation or successfully completed training program in US ARMY, Navy or Air Force. An individual may be hired and work as a Surgical Technologist without certification for a period of six months. The individual must provide documentation of successful completion of an approved surgical technology program.  

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • 2+ years experience as a Surgical Tech required.
