Penn Medicine and Penn Transplant Institute are seeking a Nurse Manager, Clinical Operations to join the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, the largest VAD program in the Philadelphia region. The Program offers exceptional, innovative and personalized longitudinal care for patients with end-stage heart failure identified to benefit from VAD destination therapy, bridge to decision or bridge to heart transplantation. This is a high visibility role with responsibility for a consistent and comprehensive patient care delivery across the inpatient and the ambulatory practice settings.

 You will be responsible to oversee daily operations for the program and maintain the highest level of patient/customer satisfaction, professional and patient education, quality outcomes and patient confidentiality. Employee and partner satisfaction are critical to patient satisfaction. With that in mind, you will be an accessible and approachable advocate for your team, ensuring that they feel heard, supported, mentored and developed. The Manager, Clinical Operations role is to balance and achieve all three pillars for success: Patient, Employee and Partner Satisfaction.

This position will have 15+ direct reports and leadership of the multidisciplinary team in partnership with the Medical, Surgical and Clinical Directors of the program.

 The VAD Program multidisciplinary team includes heart failure/heart transplant physicians, cardiac surgeons, VAD RN Coordinators and advanced practice providers, VAD technicians, social work, pharmacists, nutrition, palliative care, financial and patient service coordinators. The multidisciplinary team includes integrated care coordination with a variety of specialized consultants including hematology, infectious disease, psychiatry, endocrinology, hepatology, nephrology, pulmonology, physical therapy, etc.

 Complexity Factors for Supervisory/Management responsibilities:

1) Job has direct and indirect supervision of employees that may include budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility; 2) Day to day management of a program and multidisciplinary team across a large and complex matrixed environment; 3) Coordination of inpatient services and ambulatory services across several departments and clinical specialties and provides and 24/7 on-call team coverage; 4) Population-specific regulatory requirements, 5) Maintain robust quality improvement program and registry data documentation; 6) Management of external partnerships/collaboration; 7) Foster bidirectional communication with program team members and various stakeholders.

 Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field is required. Master's degree preferred.

 Minimum Experience:

5-years of clinical leadership is required, experience with VAD, cardiac medicine or surgery is strongly preferred. Licensed to practice as a RN in Pennsylvania.

 Additional Information:

This position is Monday through Friday 40 hours per week and requires occasional off-hours support from the manager as patient care and team needs arise. Hours may be adjusted to meet the operational needs of the department.
