Job Summary - Senior Business Consultant:

  • The Senior Business Consultant is a member of the internal consulting group that works with the hospital executive team. The Senior Business Consultant has expertise in several industry-wide methodologies (lean, six sigma, project management) to improve processes and implement strategic initiatives. The Senior Business Consultant is responsible for defining the scope on large, cross functional projects. They are also responsible for identifying areas for improvement, leading the project, and ensures task completion and issue resolution. The business consultant is an agent of change and must also be capable of forming relationships quickly at all levels in the organization, be able to adapt to changing priorities, demonstrate executive presence, possess effective interpersonal skills, be able to establish good working relationships, be able to foster cooperation in others, and be a creative problem-solver. The Senior business consultant must be able to deliver executive level presentations, effectively delegate work, hold others accountable for deliverables, and effectively communicate with key project stakeholders of project status and issues. The Senior Business Consultant must provide mentorship to others on the team and within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads business consulting projects and large strategic initiatives at the request of hospital leadership
  • Implement project or strategic initiative with executive leader and project champion
  • Defines project scope, goals, project and change management plan
  • Communicates project status and potential risks with key stakeholders
  • Routinely identifies areas of opportunity for the department to provide expertise and works with management to move forward
  • Mentors other team members on Six Sigma and Project Management
  • Facilitates crucial conversations with cross functional project teams to provide a cooperative environment of open communication and mutual respect among all team members
  • Prepares and delivers executive level presentations
  • An active educator of process improvement training by either providing classroom instruction or student mentorship/feedback
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

  • Identifies areas of opportunity for the department to provide expertise and works with management to move forward
  • Partners with other team members to provide additional support, when needed
  • Facilitates conversation with project teams to provide a cooperative environment of open communication and mutual respect among all team members
  • Delivery of executive level presentations
  • Supports process improvement training by either providing classroom instruction or student mentorship/feedback
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Education or Equivalent Experience - Senior Business Consultant:

  • Bachelor's degree (Required); preferably in Healthcare, Business, Process Engineering
  • Master's degree in Healthcare, Business, Process Engineering (Preferred)
  • 7+ years of Healthcare or business experience (Required)
  • Prior experience managing complex on-going projects (Required)
  • Previous experience working with health care leaders and/or in an academic Medical organization (Required)
  • Six Sigma Certification or Project Management Certification (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience - Business Consultant:

  • Bachelor's degree (Required)
  • Master's degree (Preferred)
  • 5+ years of Healthcare or business experience (Required)
  • Prior experience managing complex on-going projects (Preferred)
  • Previous experience working with health care leaders and/or in an academic Medical organization (Preferred)
  • Six Sigma Certification or Project Management Certification (Preferred)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Implementation of projects or initiatives using the knowledge of Six Sigma, Project Management, Change Management or Lean
  • Knowledge of hospital operations including understanding of patient flow and capacity management
  • Consultative, presentation, and group facilitation skills with the ability to document in an articulate and organized fashion
  • Able to draw conclusions or areas of focus based on strong data analytic skills
  • Fast learner to understand workflows and processes in new areas
  • Critical thinker to help identify areas of process improvements and workflow management
  • Able to hold others accountable for completion of tasks and escalates when necessary
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and effective communication
