The Colorectal Surgery Service at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their inpatient team of board certified colorectal surgeons. The Colorectal Surgery team at PPMC is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for benign and malignant processes of the colon, rectum and anus. In addition to the above, you will gain exposure to advanced aspects of our colorectal services including but not limited to our high-volume cancer service line including the Da Vinci Robotic Minimally Invasive Surgery Program.

As an Advanced Practitioner (APP) on this service you will be an integral part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex colorectal surgery patients. Responsibilities for the APP who joins our team will include OR assisting, particularly with robotic procedures, inpatient management of both pre and post-operative patients, clinical decision making, procedures according to credentialing, complex discharge planning, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. The APP will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with collaborating/supervising physicians, surgical residents, APPs, nursing staff, and other members of the care team. Further, the APP will be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice, as well as to play a key role in optimizing patient care protocols. Numerous opportunities for professional growth and development exist and are encouraged through research, lecturing, and precepting, as well as through departmental and hospital projects and committees.

All PA-C’s function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.

Masters Degree as a Physician Assistant is required. Licensure as a Physician Assistant in Pennsylvania is required.
