Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.The Colorectal Surgery Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has an exciting opportunity for an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team of board certified General Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers. The Colorectal team at HUP is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for disorders including but not exclusive to colorectal & anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, & various anorectal diseases. As an NP/PA on this service you will be part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex colorectal surgical patients. Responsibilities for the PA/NP who joins our team will include inpatient management of pre- and post-operative patients, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including complex wound care and ostomy management), intricate discharge planning, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. The NP/PA, will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team, and be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of his/her professional practice. In addition, the APP will also participate in educational activities, research, align with regulatory compliance, document care according to professional standards, and prescribe in accordance with the collaborative agreement and state regulations.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Department’s Quality Improvement initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Effective Team (CET). Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.
All AGACNP and PA-C’s function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CRNP or PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
