General Summary Statement

Performs a variety of functions as a member of the Surgical Pathology (Histology) work group preparing tissue samples for gross and microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist and/or Pathologist Assistant. All activities comply with established policy, procedure, standards and practices outlined in the department manuals.


Education Training and Experience

Completion of an accredited Histotechnology training program or equivalent,ora Medical Technology training program that includes Histotechnology training, is required. An Associates Degree is preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a full service histology laboratory with knowledge of specialized techniques is required. Must possess the ability to operate and maintain: 1) complex laboratory equipment providing routine histology services and 2) Hospital/Laboratory Information Systems. Must have knowledge of accreditation requirements, compliance methods and inspection preparedness.

 

Licensure/Certification

HT (ASCP), MT/MLT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or eligible.
