Full Time- Day Shift
Working as part of a Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) lab team, the Clinical Genomics Laboratory Technologist will perform automated and manual nucleic acid extractions, NGS library preparations, and sequencing for targeted clinical oncology panels. To be successful in this role you should have well-developed basic lab skills, understanding of common wet lab methods, and ability to perform efficient troubleshooting. This individual will also assist in regular lab maintenance, cleaning, and inventory tasks and may have the opportunity to participate in research and development projects.
Applies knowledge and skills to accurately perform established assay procedures: • Performing automated and manual DNA and TNA extractions • Performing hybrid capture and amplicon based library preparations • Loading and operating Illumina and Ion Torrent sequencers • Monitors, performs, and documents all quality control, maintenance, and calibration procedures according to established protocols. Identifies issues/factors that adversely affect test performance. Provides technical support to staff and faculty to resolve any issues related to laboratory testing. • As directed by Supervisor, coordinates the training of new employees and teaching of students. • Contributes to maintaining lab instruments and equipment and managing inventory. • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Bachelor's Degree Biological or chemical sciences required And 1+ years Laboratory experience in non-classroom setting, required, OR bachelor's degree Medical Laboratory Sciences or other laboratory training program And American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, required.
