Summary:

  • The Director of Nursing, Behavioral Health maintains the responsibility, authority and accountability for patient care administration and practice in defined areas of responsibility at Penn Medicine Princeton House Behavioral Health (PHBH) and for the creation of an environment or culture that enables PHBH to fulfill its mission and meet or exceed its goals. The DON is responsible for the delivery of quality nursing care to all inpatient units at Princeton House Behavioral Health and serves as a resource for nurses in PHBH Outpatient Services. The Director organizes, plans, and directs oversight of nursing services to meet staffing needs in collaboration with the Nurse Managers and related nursing leaders. The Director of Nursing is an active member of the PHBH administrative team, participating in program and systems planning and development and ensuring departmental compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies. Princeton House is in the early stages of our Magnet journey.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical leadership for patient care within the assigned clinical areas. Responsibilities include the planning, organizing, directing and evaluation of the clinical care. Accountable for the measurement, assessment and improvement in nurse-sensitive patient and organizational outcomes, as well as the assurance of a professional nursing practice environment in which registered nurses are autonomous, govern their practice and are empowered to provide effective, efficient, safe and compassionate quality care. Creates an environment in a defined area of responsibility at PHBH that enables PHCS to fulfill its mission, vision and values. Provides for and promotes a well-managed hospital and health care system, with clear lines of responsibility and accountability. Supports the governance of PHCS to ensure a proper framework for the safety and the delivery of quality patient care, treatment and services practiced in defined areas of responsibility at PHBH. Establishes effective strategies for programs and product/service line with the goal of increasing market share as well as overall day to day operational oversight of service line departments. Supports the mission, vision and values of PHCS that is reflected in long range, strategic and operational plans, resource allocations and organizational policies. Provides organization, direction and staffing for care, treatment and services in defined areas at PHBH. Ensures that all services in defined areas of responsibility at PHBH are in accordance with applicable licensure requirements, laws, rules and regulations. Acts on reports and/or recommendations from authorized agencies as appropriate. Plans and implements a safety management program for defined areas at PHBH. Establishes plans, and priorities and manages the performance improvement process for staff in defined areas at PHBH. Implements clinical practice guidelines, as needed. Provides a framework for developing, implementing, reviewing and revising these guidelines in defined areas of responsibility at PHBH.

Credentials:

  • Registered Nurse - NJ (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

Master's Degree in Mental Health Nursing or related field required.

Related Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years of clinical practice in one or more specialty areas

Minimum 10+ years of progressive nursing leadership and management experience, preferably in academic health settings

Experience must include clinical and administrative practice.

Active licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of NJ Certification in psychiatric &/or addictions preferred or timeline to complete.

Lean Six Sigma training preferred.
