Position Summary: Provide oversight and leadership of the Princeton Medicine Hospitalist Service. Provide Medical care in the hospital for inpatients and outpatients with observation status. Provide oversight and education for medical students and residents during your scheduled coverage.

Job Functions and Duties:

1. In conjunction with and at the direction of the Medical Director, to provider oversight and leadership to the Princeton Medicine Hospitalist Service Provide overall oversight in leadership of the Princeton medicine hospitalist service. This includes oversight of scheduling, physician relationships, and coordination with the site directors for the Internal Medicine residency program as well as the student clerkship director for medical students and physician assistant students.

2. Recruitment and retain hospitalists for both the teaching service as well as the attending directed service

3. Provide clinical oversight for the hospitalists

4. Serve as a point of contact for issues related to the Hospitalist service

5. Coordinate education and continuing medical education for the hospitalists

6. Perform periodic evaluations on the hospitalists work in conjunction with care coordination, utilization Management, and nursing leadership on patient Care issues as related to the hospitalist service.

7. In collaboration with the Chair, Department of Medicine, work on strategic planning, quality and performance improvement programs.

8. Participate and present at various Committee and Board meetings

9. Perform patient care rounds during scheduled weeks on service, taking full accountability for assigned general internal medicine inpatient service Maintain a faculty position at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

10. Provide leadership and education to the entire care team.

11. Work with case managers to ensure appropriate length of stay, efficient use of resources, and appropriate follow-up care.

12. Meet with families and maintain a presence on the patient floors throughout the day.

13. Directly supervise residents and medical students on the general internal medicine services.

14. Perform internal medicine consultations as requested by other physicians.

15. Attend regular meetings with the executive leadership

16. Attend and participate in the monthly faculty practice business meeting.

17. Attend and participate in the department of medicine faculty meetings.

18. Attend and participate in the section of hospital medicine meetings.

19. Become actively involved in various UMCPP committees and projects.

20. Follow all UMCPP policies and procedures on patient care, availability, medical education/teaching, and academics.

21. Serve as a liaison to referring physician to facilitate the growth of the inpatient service.

22. Understand, implement, and teach quality and optimum utilization of services.

23. Develop and utilize appropriate inpatient clinical pathways.

24. Fully utilize the electronic medical record, including entry of all histories/physicals, progress notes, procedure notes, consult notes, consult follow-ups, and discharge notes.

25. Supervise all planned discharges for appropriateness and timeliness including ensuring that all discharge summaries are completed and signed off within 48 hours of patient discharge.

26. Work with Care coordination team in ensuring appropriate patient care.

27. Keep community primary care physicians apprised of patient’s care while in the hospital.

28. Ensure all documentation is complete and supports medical necessity.

30. Comply with all policies and procedures and By-Laws of the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro/Princeton HealthCare.

Qualifications: 

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • Current New Jersey Licensure as a physician and in good standing with the State of New Jersey.
