Summary:
- The Self-Pay Financial Counselor is responsible for the timely and accurate submission of claims to ensure payment in full. They must assure compliance with applicable billing laws and regulations and to maximize all opportunities in the Revenue Cycle to increase cash collections.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor billing updates received in the Billing Department’s EPIC WQ(s) or on spreadsheets from a variety of sources.
- Monitor the billing work flow and look for opportunities to streamline policies and procedures to improve the first pass rate
- Communicate to the Billing Manager any returned bills that have additional errors or cannot be billed
- Assist with resolving issues appearing on the various EPIC WQ’s to decrease current and future billing deficiencies
- Work with various embassy & agency representatives to generate, verify, and submit the Statement of Accounts
- Troubleshoot issues
- Monitors tasks to improve billing practices and increase revenue
- Takes all steps necessary to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
- Notifies Billing Manager of issues that cannot be resolved in a timely manner.
- Keeps updated on all third-party billing requirements and changes.
- Acts at all times with integrity and high ethical standards in accordance with UPHS’s code of conduct policies.
- Possesses the talent to identify, analyze and solve problems that prevent timely and accurate billing.
- Continually looks for creative approaches to providing or improving services and patient satisfaction.
Credentials:
- American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management
- AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist - Institutional
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
- And 4+ years medical billing experience
And Experience in handling billing and account receivables in a similar set up or related field.
