Summary:

This position is for the 2024 Penn Medicine Ambulatory Management Internship running from May 2024- August 2024. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis from October 2nd- 2023- December 1st2023. Location will be Philadelphia, PA area.

The Penn Medicine Ambulatory Management Internship is a structured, preceptor-led, immersive program for current graduate level students who are pursuing a MHA, MPH, MBA or other healthcare administration related master’s degree. The 2024 Ambulatory Management Internship will be based specifically in The Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP). CPUP is an integral part of Penn Medicine, providing ambulatory care in approximately 50 locations across the greater Philadelphia and New Jersey region. Interns will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in various areas of the ambulatory healthcare sector including: operations, data analysis, strategic planning, finance, and practice management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the assigned department in maintaining a patient/customer focus, supports the delivery f high-quality care, shares a passing for patient and customer-centered care, and assists in meeting or exceeding patient satisfaction and financial / operational targets.
  • Engage with health system and department leadership t gain an understanding of the organization, patient populations served, organizational goals and objectives, and many other aspects of providing quality healthcare services.
  • Rotate through various divisions such as operation, revenue cycle, data analytics, and quality and safety with the gal f providing ideas t grow and improve the business.
  • Complete business-focused projects t research, propose ideas and solutions and present the final project at the conclusion of the program.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards (ex TJC, DH, FDA, HIPAA, HCFA, DPW, LCGME, SCGME, etc.).
  • Flexibly and readily adopts new processes and engages in practice operation changes.
  • Rotation and observations f front-line level role functions and/or departments may be required to enrich the Resident’s overall work experience.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support unit, departments, entity and health system organizations.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

X Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Administration or related field Required

X Other Must be currently enrolled in a MHA, MPH, or similar master's degree program during the duration of internship Required

X Preferably be between 1st and 2nd year of master's program

X Submit a personal statement of no more than 500 words outlining your career goals and what you hope to gain from your Penn Medicine 2024 Ambulatory Management Internship Program

X Must be able to secure own housing in Philadelphia area for the duration of the program Required

X Interest in pursuing a career in Healthcare Administration 

X Problem-solver 

X Strong communication skills 

X Interpersonal savvy 

X Demonstrate initiative along with analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a desire to be a future healthcare leader.
