The Operating Room at Pennsylvania Hospital is comprised of 28 operating rooms in 4 different locations throughout the Hospital allowing staff to assist in performing approximately 19,000 cases a year. The top services provided are Orthopedics, Neurology and ENT as well as other services including urology, foot and ankle, general plastics, vascular and cardiac. The OR’s are equipped with the latest surgical and video technology that enables our care teams to deliver the very best patient care. The surgeons at Pennsylvania Hospital are pioneers in their fields and among the most experienced physicians in the country. Using the latest techniques and procedures, they are able to mold the future of surgery to improve the lives of patients worldwide and provide some of the most advanced medical care available today.
Our Registered Nurses provide direct care on elective, acute, and emergent levels from the time of the preoperative interview to the patient's transfer to the PACU post-operatively. Support services are provided by surgical technologists, perioperative assistants, ortho techs and medical secretaries, all of which assist the RN in delivering quality care.

Summary:
- The Clinical Nurse II – OR Float Colleague is an RN that practices as a full partner on the health care team and consistently demonstrates safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse II – OR/ASC Float independently rotates throughout 3 services or subservices. This position will rotate as needed to meet the needs of the Main OR and ASC service lines. Rotation of location will be decided up until the day of shift and based on patient needs between the Main OR and ASC. Shift sign-ups will be in at least one-month increments and finalized at least one month in advance. Shift sign-ups will be through a rotating self-scheduling model to evenly and fairly distribute individual preferences. The Clinical Nurse II – OR Float Colleague possesses the knowledge, skills and the attitude to effectively meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Clinical Nurse II position description. The Clinical Nurse II - OR Float Colleague exhibits UPHS organizational behavioral competencies which reflect its mission and are embedded in the professional practice competency domains. The Clinical Nurse II - OR Float Colleague independently provides patient care through the application of the nursing process and accepts accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients. Assigned patients may range in age from infancy to the elderly. The Clinical Nurse II - OR Float Colleague demonstrates within the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork (Definitions listed below). The Clinical Nurse II - OR Float Colleague works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on expanding the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients. The Clinical Nurse II - OR Float Colleague seeks feedback in assuming leadership roles and provides feedback for improved clinical practice. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
