    Acting under the general direction of an Engineering Manager, the Facility System Technician performs a wide variety of duties, the purpose of which is to repair, maintain and/or enhance the physical operation of the facility and its components. The following list of duties would apply. This is not intended to be an exclusive listing.

    Summary:

    • Acting under the general direction of an Engineering Manager, the Facility System Technician performs a wide variety of duties, the purpose of which is to repair, maintain and/or enhance the physical operation of the facility and its components. The following list of duties would apply. This is not intended to be an exclusive listing.

    Responsibilities:

    • Troubleshooting – to identify and evaluate ongoing problems related to general maintenance of the physical plant and take action or actions to correct said problems in an efficient and professional manner.
    • Mechanical - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and advanced competancy in general mechanical work. Such duties shall include but not be limited to:
    • Repairs to small and medium appliances and machinery.
    • Repairs to facility furnishings: Chairs, Tables, Desks, Shelving, etc.
    • Electrical - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and basic competency in general electrical maintenance. Such duties include but are not limited to:
    • Change or repair switches, receptacles, and plugs.
    • Change light fixture bulbs and ballasts.
    • Perform lock-out/tag-out safety methods on circuit breakers.
    • Perform safety checks on hospital equipment.
    • Perform bsic troubleshooting and repair of small to medium electrical equipment.
    • Replace TV's.
    • Plumbing - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and basic competency in general plumbing maintenance. Such duties include by are not limited to:
    • Rebuilding and/or replacing plumbing hardware such as flush-o-meters, faucets, and filters; including stems, washers, seats. etc.
    • Replacing plumbing fixtures such as sinks and lavatories, and toilets.
    • Unclog sanitary drains and laterals by the use of hand plungers and/or power plumbing rooting equipment.
    • Repair and/or replacement of copper water lines, both domestic and mechanical; as well as black pipe layout and fabrication.
    • Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and basic competency in general HVAC maintenance. Such duties include byt are not limited to:
    • Clean an/or replace filters as needed.
    • Replace fan belts as needed.
    • Clean, adjust, and make repairs to individual PTAC units and needed.
    • Drywall Repair/Finish Work - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and advanced competency in completing repairs to or replacement of drywall and partition framing, drywall finishing, acoustical ceilings, flooring, and general wallpaper and painting work. Such duties include but are not limited to:
    • Install new and/or patch existing drywall and metal framing.
    • Replace damaged or missing ceiling tiles and repair/replace damaged ceiling grid components.
    • Replace damaged or missing carpet tiles, resilient tiles, and wall base.
    • Repair or replace existing wallcovering and complete repainting of existing surfaces as needed.
    • Doors Frames and Hardware - Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge and advanced competency in door and frame repair, locking mechanisms, and other hardware. Such duties shall include but are not limited to:
    • Repair and/or replace lock mechanisms in doors, casework, file cabinets, etc.
    • Repair and or replace all types of door hardware and adjust to proper operation.
    • Provide and code keys as needed.
    • Emergency duties - Responds when called on a 24/7 basis to assist in dealing with emergency situations as needed. Demonstrate knowledge of and competency in use of Fire Safety equipment. Such duties shall include but are not limited to:
    • Removal of ice and accumulated snow from walkways, driveways, and parking areas in the event of a storm.
    • Respond to Fire Alarm activation and lend assistance to assure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors in the event of a fire.
    • When appropriate - employ the use of Fire Safety equipment (Fire extinguisher) to eliminate a fire situation.
    • Respond to Natural Disaster events when appropriate. Lend aid and assistance in the event of any disaster. Participate in disaster plan.
    • Demolition and Construction – Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of and basic competency in general demolition and construction work.
    • Remove piping, electrical wiring, and/or building material to facilitate repairs, removal or replacement of same.
    • Reapply insulating or building materials properly after said repairs, removal or replacement is accomplished, i.e. pipe insulation, ceiling tile, dry wall, etc.
    • Cutting/welding as well as simple fabrication and repair using oxygen/acetylene, electric arc or heliarc equipment.
    • Maintains standards of confidentiality.
    • Consults with and keeps Manager informed of activities, needs and problems.
    • Assures that all safety tests and preventative maintenance performed is properly documented and other documentation as required.
    • Maintain established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, environmental and infection control, and comply with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
    • Maintains professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, workshops, etc.
    • Care for and maintains supplies, equipment and work areas, remove trash and debris from job area.
    • Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
    • Assists other employees in the performance of trade or other assignments.
    • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
    • Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department.

    Credentials:

    • Driver's License (Required)
    • Maintains a valid Driver’s License, CDL license a plus

    Education or Equivalent Experience:

    • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
    • High School graduate, and/or four (4) year apprenticeship preferred. Six (6) years general maintenance experience or equivalent preferred. Experience in related specialty preferred, i.e. electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R etc.
