Department: CPUP Finance

Summary:

  • The Controller is responsible for preparation of Financial Statements accordance with UPHS and generally accepted accounting policies. Provides financial support and leadership to entity Associate Chief Financial Officer, Financial Officer and Senior Leadership Team in the development of entity strategic and operating plans. The Controller Implements efficient customer-focused financial processes and systems which include management of entity accounting operations, monthly variance analysis, operating budget support and other duties as assigned. 
  • Role Reports to the CPUP ACFO 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of customer focused financial services at CPUP.
  • Responsible for the preparation of entity financial statements in accordance with UPHS and generally accepted accounting policies. 
  • Responsible for the development of Annual Operating and capital budget, projections and target setting (including end user training, reconciliation, implementation and monitoring) in accordance with UPHS budget calendar.
  • May work on larger, enterprise projects as assigned.
  • Manages, trains, and develops assigned staff.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. 
  • Responsible for oversight of audit deliverables to external and internal audit teams.

  • Responsible for Admin and department support of Budgeting and Operating Planning and Analysis

  • Responsible for partnership on PSOM Financial Reporting for the Clinical Departments.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization. 

Credentials:

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • CPA or CIA Strongly Preferred

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • And 7+ years Progressive experience in financial management position for a teaching hospital or related enterprise Education Specialization: Accounting /Finance or similar field (Required)
  • Master of Arts or Science
  • 7+ years Progressive experience in financial management position for a teaching hospital or related enterprise Education Specialization: MBA/MHA – CPA/CIA may be substituted for Master’s Degree

Aditional Skills and Knowledge

X Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principals, GASB and FASB statements and standards 

X Knowledge and understanding of front to back-end revenue cycle business processes

X Demonstrated analytical skills 

X Strong executive presence and political savvy including communication skills that enable them to appreciate other's perspectives and offer compelling insights and recommendations 

X Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills 

X Demonstrated ability to build a high performing team 

X Knowledge of monthly financial statement closing processes including variance and flux analyses

X Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word) 

X Ability to manage concurrent projects while meeting project deadlines 

X Working knowledge of General Ledger systems (preferably Lawson) and the Pillar budget system
