Materials Management
Responsibilities:
Oversee the operations of the Hospital Storeroom, Receiving, OR Materials Management and Mailroom operations. Insure an uninterrupted supply of goods to both clinical and Non-clinical customers on the PPMC campus and PPMC satellite locations.
Assist Nursing and Medical Staff with product selection and procurement. Participate in Product Standards, Value Analysis, and Environment of Care Committees, Infection Control and Patient Safety committees.
Primary Liaison with UPHS corporate Materials Management and VP. Works independently to complete all assigned tasks and duties within the established departmental guidelines. Will be required to prioritize fluctuating workload and time-lines to meet the demands of the position.
Will also be required to problem solve normal/routine situations and to understand the political environment to know when to seek assistance of management. These activities are conducted while maintaining and/or improving the quality of care provided to patients.
Value Analysis
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Value Analysis PPMC Physician leader and CFO, performs all duties related to, but not limited to directing the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center Value Analysis Program such as cost-effective utilization of products, support of Value Analysis objectives, management of data, coordination of product and purchased service evaluation processes, coordinates and assists in the education processes regarding value analysis, participates as a member/chair/co-chair of any related committees.

Participates in Entity and Department wide initiatives for Patient /Employee safety. Demonstrates an awareness of patient/ employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of their position. Ensures that the areas are compliant with all regulatory requirements. Develops reports and improves dept performance using metrics which reflect the activities of the department. Ensure that patient and non patient care equipment is properly inspected and maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:
Serves as a liaison between the materials management department, administration, corporate and hospital departments, and medical staff to ensure cost-effective utilization of products, including but not limited to all medical/surgical supplies, capital equipment, services, and technology assessment. Coordinates product related value analysis projects between administration and staff as the representative of administration. Applies advanced knowledge and clinical expertise to identify products, which can be standardized, modified and/or eliminated to increase operating efficiency. Designs, implements and ensures compliance with established protocols for the optimal, standardized use of selected products in collaboration with appropriate department managers and staff. Interacts with all appropriate department managers to develop, coordinate and integrate cost-management programs into departmental services by assisting with program development, data collection and analysis, implementation, monitoring, and follow-up. Collaborates with departments to monitor and report on compliance of implemented changes in products. Monitors and reports hospital wide value analysis related cost reductions to administration and department managers and corporate value analysis committee. Reviews computer generated reports from the Materials Management system and Finance to determine products and/or product lines that can be evaluated for product standardization. Reviews all purchasing contracts for product-standardization, evaluation and analysis. Compares departmental records and Materials Management system database to existing purchasing contracts for cost/price analysis. Evaluates the cost benefits of product changes for standardization and/or contract/vendor changes and makes recommendations for action to management. For management and department review and analysis, prepares cost/benefit price analysis reports for product or vendor changes and comparative market analysis reports. Initiates studies for new or alternative sources of products to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness. Evaluates “all-encompassing” kits and trays versus individual component parts for maximum cost-effectiveness. Evaluates the cost-effectiveness of ‘reusable’ versus ‘disposable’ products for maximum cost-effectiveness. Works with appropriate department managers and staff to investigate, monitor and report on product failures. Develops and maintains an education program on the value analysis process, including but not limited to product evaluation, cost analysis, purchase processes, product use, and consumption. Coordinates with staff development on all educational programs relating to products. Prepares agenda and analysis of all products for monthly Value Analysis Committee meeting. Participates as a member, chair, co-chair or ad hoc member of any committee or subcommittees as a representative of Administration. Represents Administration on all committees/workgroups designated to analyze potential products/services. Serves as a liaison to hospital on behalf of Administration in order to facilitate and support the Value Analysis Program’s objectives. Utilizes hospital information to assist in the identification and implementation of product and service-related cost-savings measures, including but not limited to hospital databases, purchasing processes, benchmarking and technology assessments. Attends and participates in hospital Value Analysis Program related activities. Establishing goals and guidelines for the division of the materials management to ensure that the institution maintains fiscal efficacy. Creating metrics to monitor the delivery of materials management. With Corporate Materials Management, and CFO performs all strategic planning for all reporting areas as well as hospital materials and distribution/transportation systems hospital wide. Oversees and, with Corporate Materials Management, directs the selection and utilization of materials and distribution information systems. Develops and implements cost effective initiatives in reporting departments and where as appropriate in other areas in relation to supply distribution, transportation, mail, etc. Leads the divisional value analysis effort constantly pursuing opportunities to increase the value of purchased goods and services. Enforces compliance to all appropriate regulatory bodies as activities in the hospital relate to Materials Management functions. Monitors vendor performance, particularly large vendors such as JIT or stockless vendors, reports this to Corporate Director of Materials Management. Responsible for critically analyzing and solving problems in requesting areas Responsible for the development of logistics, transportation and storage requirements for all hospital materials. Participates in development and works on the execution of strategic initiatives developed by Corporate Materials Management and the CFO for PPMC.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts or Science required
And 4+ years Experience in a Hospital setting required
5+ years Management and clinical experience including prior staff supervision required
Master of Arts or Science preferred
