Supervise the daily operations of the Penn Medicine Cherry Hill Outpatient Pharmacy. Interpret, evaluate and process medication prescriptions for employees and their dependents and UPHS clinic patients. Consult with healthcare professionals to clarify or optimize drug therapy as appropriate. Supervise activities of the staff to assure accurate processing of prescriptions, compounding and dispensing of medications in a timely manner. Support the employees by providing drug information and guidance related to appropriate use of medications and potential adverse effects as well as appropriate and cost-effective drug therapy. Assist and manage pharmacists and support personnel as needed. Manage the pharmacy in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise the daily operations of the Outpatient Pharmacy.
• Accountable for the management, oversight and operation of all aspects within the pharmacy. Including: Patient Safety, Regulatory Requirements, Quality Assurance, Contractual Agreements, Customer Service, Personnel Management, Inventory Management, Financial Profitability, Loss Prevention, and Workflow Management.
• Motivate, inspire and develop the Pharmacy Support Staff by balancing assignments that maximize colleagues’ strengths, address development opportunities and decrease knowledge gaps.
• Identify critical business opportunities and meaningful solutions to drive growth and improve performance in your pharmacy.
• Review, evaluate and process prescriptions.
• Review prescriptions for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of drug therapy.
• Process prescription utilizing the software provided and evaluates therapy related to patient medication profile and for drug-drug interactions.
• Clarify prescription, as appropriate, with prescriber.
• Provide relevant drug information and counsel patient as appropriate.
• Document prescription processing, clarification communication and provision of drug information.
• Obtain medications needed to process prescriptions.
• Maintain adequate inventory of high volume and frequently prescribed medications.
• Order through wholesaler inventory necessary to process prescriptions and track purchases.
• Ensure customer focused provision of service.
• Monitor level of service and timely processing of prescriptions.
• Adhere to Federal and State laws, regulations of governing agencies such as DEA, JCAHO, OSHA, etc. • Oversee storage, distribution, and auditing of Controlled Substances.
• Participate in performance improvement programs, drug usage evaluations, and quality monitors designed for Pharmacy.
• Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
• Provide feedback and input into the departmental operation and recommendations for new or revised policies and procedures.
• Communicate policies and procedures as necessary or appropriate.
• Shall be competent in pharmacy technology.
• Maintain competency required for current position.
