8 Center is our 24 bed Cardiac Intermediate Care unit. Our nurses commonly care for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. We have sub specialties including CHF, electrophysiology, and Pulmonary Hypertension patients. We care for patients with pulmonary artery catheters as well as patients on LVADS.
Additional Information: Will work 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule period (either night or day)
Summary: The purpose of this program is to prepare student nurses for the hospital environment prior to graduation. The student nurse will gain a baseline familiarity with basic patient care under the mentorship of a certified nursing assistant and clinical nurse. The program is designed in a way that students can gain valuable experience in a clinical environment in concurrence with their full-time nursing classes. Students with this type of experience often display a greater understanding of the hospital environment, become a prospective Clinical Nurse 1 hire, and successfully transition into the role of a clinical nurse within Penn Medicine.
The Student Nurse works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and will assist in meeting the needs of the patient and the unit. Duties include, but are not limited to; assisting the nurse in monitoring VS and reporting any readings beyond the established parameters. Assisting with O2 therapy and reporting acute changes in ventilation and circulation. Promoting infection control and safety and maintaining a clean and safe work and patient environment. Meeting patients' personal hygiene needs and assisting with ADLs. Monitoring Nutrition, Fluid Balance, and Elimination by maintaining accurate I&O and assisting with meals. Accurate data collection and clear documentation are essential on all patient records for any interventions performed. Promoting teamwork and positive morale and participating in achieving the unit's patient satisfaction goals.
Minimum Requirements: The qualified candidate must have completed a minimum of 1 clinical nursing course in an accredited baccalaureate school of nursing and must have current CPR certification.
