General Summary Statement

A professional Sonographer who works closely with physicians, nurses and cardiologists to accurately diagnose medical disorders and perform high quality Cardiac Ultrasound studies, including Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE), Stress Echocardiograms (SE, DOB SE) with and without pharmacologic agents, assists physicians in Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) utilizing current technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform adult cardiac ultrasound exams (TTE, TEE, SE and DOB SE) following a set protocol according to guidelines and standards set by ICAEL and the American Society of Echocardiography.

2. Demonstrates the correct use of the controls to enhance the image quality to optimize visualization of all structures.

3. Accurately perform all necessary calculations needed for diagnosis of cardiovascular abnormalities, have a clear understanding of all disease states.

4. Understands when to activate a CRITICAL FINDINGS protocol and follows through on the procedure.

5. Explain the procedure to the patient in a clear and concise manner so that patient fully understands. Able to maintain a calm demeanor during all phases of exams.

6. Able to assist the physician with software programs on the Ultrasound systems for trouble shooting or selecting images at the end of exams.

7. Demonstrates the ability to access the Cupid Report system. Enters all pertinent data and technologist interpretation filling in all required fields.

8. Demonstrate the ability to access the electronic patient log (pre and post exam)-enter the appropriate information for the correct patient and type of exam. Enters all pertinent data.

9. Choose the correct performable in association with the correct charge

10. Observes and reports promptly to the Department Supervisor or Clinical Engineering unusual occurrences or malfunctions of equipment.

11. Properly cleans the TEE probe following the procedure according to lab protocol.

12. Maintains and cleans laboratory or ultrasound equipment on a daily basis or as needed.

13. Make sure adequate supplies are kept, by maintaining an ongoing inventory system.

14. Provide customer service, demonstrating a cheerful friendly manner while on duty.

15. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for actions.

16. Flexible in work assignments, accepts changes in assignments in the spirit of good teamwork. Displays positive attitude, addresses conflicts privately, treats others with respect/dignity.

17. Keep in-services, training, credentials current and is competent with Informational Technology skills as it relates to this position.

Education Training and Experience

  1. Graduate of a cardiac ultrasound program with an associate degree in cardiovascular technology or, 3-years’ experience in the field required.
  2. Minimum of 1-year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred.
  3. Pediatric Echocardiography experience preferred but not required

Special Skills and Other Requirements

  1. Familiarity with computer system applications including Microsoft Office Excel and Word products. Ability to use hospital approved computer equipment.
  2. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm in a stressful situation.
  3. Excellent skills in cardiac anatomy and physiology and thorough knowledge of Echocardiography procedures and equipment.
  4. The ability to prioritize patient flow for efficiency in productivity.

 

Licensure/Certification

Registered sonographer through the Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) preferred, or registry eligible. If CCI or ARDMS registry eligible, registration must be obtained within one year of hire.
