Summary:
To facilitate communication between patients having surgeries, their families, and friends and their surgeons and oversee the area in which they wait.Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares family waiting lounge for the reception of visitors. This includes straightening, making coffee, and checking availability of juice and soda.
2. Maintains supplies through ordering and stocking.
3. Introduces self to visitors, obtains their name and notes identifying characteristics (this is to assist in easy identification of visitor and to avoid yelling out visitor’s name).
4. Orients visitor lounge, i.e. refreshments, bathroom, and comfort zone.
5. Uses effective interpersonal skills in all interactions.
6. Works closely with Nursing Manager, staff in O.R. suites, Perianesthesia departments, admissions staff, doctors, and Patient Care Coordinators in the communication of patient status to the waiting family members and friends.
7. Is cognizant of PACU boarders and patient flow status.
8. Communicates with family members and visitors in a quiet, professional manner, respecting their privacy at all times.
9. Communicates and coordinates with departments throughout the hospital as needed.
10. Participates in performance improvement as directed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
12. Performs duties and exhibits behaviors consistent with care philosophy of Pennsylvania Hospital.
