Summary:
- Provides Diagnostic imaging of specific body part for the purpose of medical interpretation and/or treatment for both the CT and Diagnostic x-ray areas.
Responsibilities:
- Produce routine and complex radiographic Diagnostic X-ray and Computed Tomography images without direct supervision. Assist physicians as necessary to obtain images needed to produce diagnostic results. Demonstrates competency on the positioning of patients, setting appropriate technical factors, and using appropriate algorithms for processing images and maintaining levels at/or below National Repeat Ratios. Use appropriate clinical protocols for procedures based upon clinical indication. Demonstrate technical/clinical competency in all routine procedures on all equipment. Demonstrates working knowledge of the following equipment: Multi-slice CT Scanners, including contrast injectors and advanced workstations. Computed radiography (CR), Direct digital radiography (DR), Fluoroscopic Unit, including C-arms, Mobile x-ray units, Automatic exposure control (AEC), Quality Control and all accessories for above equipment. IT systems: iSite PACS, QCPR, Wellsoft, Nighthawk, Citrix, IT shared drives, Outlook. Knowledge of Anatomy (including cross sectional anatomy, physiology, basic pathology, and related medical terminology). Demonstrates compliance to safety and radiation policies for the protection of patients, staff, physicians, visitors, and self Radiation Safety: Utilizes proper radiation protective equipment when exposure to radiation is a possibility, while maintaining radiation exposure As Low As Reasonably Achievable(ALARA). Demonstrates working knowledge of Basic Methods of Protection (Time, Distance, and Shielding) and repeat exposure reduction. Demonstrates working knowledge of Technical factors to minimize radiation exposure (including adjustments for circumstances such as body habitus, pediatrics, trauma, pathology, breathing techniques, etc.). Knowledge of Special Considerations (Portable (mobile) units and Fluoroscopy) Equipment Safety: Performs daily equipment analysis to assure proper working conditions for minimum downtime. Knows Image Processing and Quality Assurance. Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot technical problems, document in logbook needed repair and place appropriate service call if applicable, and reports equipment failure to supervisor and/or manager. Staff, Patient, Visitor Safety: Reports any safety concern to appropriate departments, e.g. Engineering/Security, and/or directly to supervisor/Manager. Uses incident reporting process to document any unforeseen events or deviations from process related to patients or visitors. Demonstrates safety and health requirements, uses personal protective equipment, when at risk of exposure to blood and body fluids. Fills out proper paperwork if exposure occurs. Uses patient mobilizers as required. Follows Patient ID policy and Clinical Exam Validation policy 100% of the time. Follows Intravascular Contrast Media process to reduce risk of contrast nephrotoxicity. Screens patients exam and/or contrast contraindications such as pregnancy, asthma, renal insufficiency, etc... Demonstrates ability to manage exams and workflows. Interprets physician order, acquire pertinent clinical information for exam, obtain any documentation needed prior to performing exam, i.e. consent, lab work, patient questionnaire, and contraindicated medications. Demonstrate ability to coordinate with patient floors, other departments, transport, Physician offices and outlying hospitals. Transport patients as needed. Demonstrates ability to check daily work list, prioritize exams as needed, and schedule patients as required. Demonstrate ability to adapt to changing workload and environment. Patient waiting times and report turnaround times are kept to a minimum based on workload, and patient conditions. Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile techniques. Demonstrates knowledge and application of HIS/PACS system to correctly complete procedure, modify or change procedure if required, and confirm patient information, procedure, billing and reports are correct in the system. All documentation is accurate, timely, and complete.
