Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has a full-time opportunity for a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist Supervisor to join the Chemotherapy and Infusion Pharmacy Team.

 

Responsibilities:

• • Supervision of Operations
  • Supervises pharmacy team to ensure drugs prescribed by providers are evaluated for appropriate dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, age/height/weight/BSA, labs, tests, organ function, disease state, and contraindications, etc. Performs patient chart review, and references drugs and chemotherapy regimens with NCCN and/or treatment guidelines as appropriate
  • Supervises pharmacy team to ensure the accuracy of their work prior to dispensing. Ensures medications are prepared and dispensed using appropriate techniques as needed. Performs final check on all prescriptions, ensuring accurate input, labeling, and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to cover all areas of the outpatient infusion pharmacy.
  • Effectively responds to operational and drug-related clinical questions to providers, nurses, and other hospital personnel with evidence-based answers and sound judgment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of drug information, and all policies and procedures by leading/participating in staff meetings, reading internal communications, etc. Assumes responsibility for adherence to medication-use policies and procedures by infusion pharmacy team
  • Medication Safety and Inventory
  • Manage and track medication safety issues. Offers solutions and participates in and leads medication safety measures.
  • Actively participate in the ambulatory infusion medication safety committee and other pertinent committees
  • Assesses and maintains adequate medication and supply inventory levels for infusion operations, including navigating drug shortages/backorders
  • Quality Improvement and Compliance
  • Leads pharmacy within an interdisciplinary team setting, utilizes problem-solving skills to provide solutions and uphold appropriate patient care / operations. Optimizes workflow appropriately for efficiency and safety.
  • Contributes to, participates in, and leads multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives and drug use evaluations within the pharmacy
  • Optimize cost effectiveness of operations, and leads cost-saving initiatives. Oversee and provide support in areas of insurance and billing information
  • Effectively manages and efficiently uses all resources. Balances priorities, meets deadlines, and is responsive to requests
  • Ensures compliance in all activities with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements for a specific practice setting, including USP 797 & 800. Oversees pharmacy cleanroom and ensures continuity of sterile environment, engineering controls, appropriate handling of hazardous drugs, and required certifications / testing. Works to resolve excursions in a timely manner.

   

  Accountabilities:

   

  ·Responsible for maintaining a current State of Pennsylvania licensure and for obtaining the necessary continuing education credits. Maintains a current knowledge of all updates in pharmacy practice

  ·Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, polices, and procedures 

  ·Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization. Actively participate in process/quality/clinical improvement initiatives and their implementation

   

  Credentials:

  • Current licensure in the State required (PA)

  Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
  • Prior clinical oncology pharmacy experience preferred
  • Prior management experience preferred
