The Corporate Director for Value Management Operations is charged with coordinating the development and oversight of short and long term plans across the enterprise to drive effective clinical and non-clinical sourcing and utilization. This is a leadership role requiring an individual of strong written and verbal communication. They must build consensus across a diverse group of business and clinical leaders and practitioners in varying environments and locations.
Key partnerships will include: Corporate Supply Chain Committee (NETSCC), Corporate Supply Chain, Entity Based Value Analysis Committees, Executive NETSC Committee, Hospital Leadership, Finance Leadership, VP Corporate Materials Management, Service Line Leadership, Disease Teams, Decision Support, Physicians, External Consultants, Vendors, Supply Chain Advisors, and entity based SC Directors, Directors of Value Management.
Accountabilities
- Works in partnership with Physicians, Leadership, Supply Chain Staff and Clinical Teams to advance system wide efforts to improve financial sustainability through increased effectiveness of spend management. Works with Supply Chain staff to develop consistent processes to assure that standards established are adopted, monitored and continuously improved.
- Works in conjunction with key partners to identify, execute, and utilize data analytics platforms to benchmark and compare product costs and clinical utilization variability among hospital entities and physicians. Works with vendors and other Supply Chain Leadership to create agreements, processes and structure to align UPHS decisions with daily procurement activities.
- Supports the development and utilization of high value reporting tools to effectively monitor and managed business operations and key quality indicators. Works with various accountable leadership groups to incorporate these reports in routine management and feedback processes.
- Assures an enterprise wide view and inclusion of all entities in all initiatives and relevant programs.
- Commits to a highly integrated working relationship with Supply Chain and Financial Leadership across all UPHS entities providing expertise and support to advance UPHS goals. Integrates Continuous Performance Improvement into daily work and leadership approach.
- Supports high quality, cost effective delivery of care through the development and management of a framework which:
- minimizes clinical procedure supply utilization variability; supports product standardization and cost reductions. Facilitates and resolves problems related to product standardization. Facilitates introduction of new products and technologies.
- Participates in appropriate constituent meetings, and communicates information and trends appropriately. Demonstrates ability to summarize data and present information in a way that resonates with specific audience. Is able to influence and gain consensus from multidisciplinary teams to facilitate moving initiatives forward and accomplishing goals.
- Partners with Hospital leadership and Corporate Supply Chain to review non-clinical sourcing and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree is required (Business, Supply Chain or similar is preferred).
- Master’s Degree is preferred.
- RN/Clinical area strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of Progressively responsible professional work experience in health care value analysis; including at least 5 years in a management capacity.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand the needs of internal and external clients and devise ways to bridge these needs to achieve goals
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution, based on project requirements
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects
- Demonstrated ability to conduct data entry, validate data, look for data anomalies, and provide solutions for improving data integrity
- Accounting skills
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and managed care reimbursement payment methodologies, billing, and compliance issues
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, intermediate knowledge of Excel is required (VLookups, Slicers, Formulas, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to pull, and analyze data from different sources: Clinical, Financial and Purchasing/Material Management platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to summarize and present data in a way that resonates with specific audience and gain consensus to move initiatives forward and accomplish goals.
- Demonstrated ability to build a high performing team
