Job Title: Otorhinolaryngology Technician
Department: Otorhinolaryngology
Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - 3400 Spruce St
Entity: CPUP
Hours: Full time 

Summary:

  • Receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment, performs cleaning sterilizing duties, prepares instrument trays in Department of Otorhinolaryngology under the direction of the clinic manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in Entity and Department wide initiatives for Patient /Employee safety.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient/ employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of their position.
  • Participates in Entity and Department wide initiatives for Patient /Employee safety.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient/ employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of their position.
  • Validation of annual competencies required for the position (see attached addendum)
  • Decontaminates, cleans, and processes instruments and equipment.
  • Inspects instruments and identifies those in need of repairs.
  • Accurately assembles instrument trays and case carts.
  • Adheres to unit dress code and has no more than a counseling notice in a 12 month period.
  • Completes daily unit assignment within appropriate time frame.
  • Attends a minimum of 12 hours of education time. 
  • Education times include in-services and contact hours.
  • Attends 85% of staff meetings and/or documents 100% review of minutes.
  • Demonstrates quality care based on standards, policies and procedures as evidenced through quality control monitoring tools (i.e., QC, occurrence reports, and observation).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of unit based performance improvement studies as evidenced by ability to:
  • Define purpose of unit based performance improvement program.
  • Identify unit indicators.
  • Complete monthly audits.
  • Documents accurately in accordance with standards established at Presbyterian Medical Center.
  • Assists with the orientation of personnel to unit functions and standards.
  • The employee adheres to established policies and procedures and has no more than a counseling notice in a 12 month period.
  • Attends/completes all mandatory in-services (CPR re-certification, fire/safety, infection control, right to know, body mechanics, radiation safety, and electrical safety).

Credentials:

  • Cert Board Steril Process Dist (Required)
  • Prior Sterile Processing Technician certification preferred, or Sterile Processing Technician (IAHCSMM AND CBSPD) certification obtained within 18 months of employment.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training course and/or internship within a hospital/medical center is preferred.
