The Senior Microsoft Cloud Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Microsoft 365 operating tenant, including Office 365, Azure Active Directory, enterprise applications, licensing and service activation. This position is responsible for resolving routine and complex issues associated with the Microsoft 365 tenant and ensuring that it is available to the UPHS user community.
Accountabilities
- Microsoft 365 Administration o Maintains Microsoft 365 user licensing process.
- Tests, configures, activates, and maintains Microsoft 365 cloud configurations, application registrations and service activations.
- Configures and deploys Office 365 (Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise) including the deployment of add-ins.
- Manages and deploys Microsoft 365 services (i.e. Bookings, Forms, Sway, etc.).
- Utilizes Azure Active Directory for ongoing management of licensing and other features.
- Manages the Azure AD Connect service.
- Manages the OneDrive service.
- Manages Teams apps, including their availability throughout the organization.
- Manages the backup of data within the Microsoft 365 tenant.
- Implements solutions according to industry best practice.
- Continuous improvement
- Develops automation solutions to improve workflow efficiency and reduce manual work.
- Performs remote analyses and prepare reports on system problems or performance trends and issues.
- Coordinates and monitors troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common systems problems.
- Recommends resolution to complex technical issues, associated with the configuration of the Microsoft 365 tenant and coordinates the implementation of the approved course of action.
- Works with Lead Engineers and Architects to develop long term strategies
- End User Support
- Provides remote support to customers internally and externally as needed.
- Performs advanced remote troubleshooting and analysis of systems.
- Answers end user questions and resolves issues.
- Assist in instructing end users in the operation and maintenance of systems/equipment.
- Updates tickets and assignments according to established procedures.
- Acts as an escalation point for Mid-Level Engineers
- Project Support
- Directs the analysis of technical products, systems and/or software being evaluated for use in the environment.
- Coordinates with vendors to understand technical implementations of third-party applications being implemented within the Microsoft 365 tenant.
- Provides and recommends research and development services for prospective technologies.
- Acts as a liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
- Refers issues/questions to appropriate personnel/manager for follow-up, testing and troubleshooting.
- Leads the analysis of technical products, systems and/or software being evaluated for use in the environment.
- Documentation and Process Adherence
- Attends Change Control, Root Cause Analysis and Operational meetings as needed.
- Coordinates service activations and upgrades to ensure work is performed according to UPHS policy and technical standards.
- Documents systems events to ensure appropriate administration activities are performed.
- Conducts proper planning to ensure that appropriate back-out procedures are in place and fully tested.
- Performs centralized IS documentation and related communication functions.
- Performs or updates inventories, knowledge repositories and document libraries as appropriate.
- Follows all UPHS Corporate Information Services established operating procedures and methodologies.
- On-Call Support
- Provides on-call support for the Microsoft 365 environment on a rotating schedule.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- HS Diploma is required (Bachelor’s is preferred)
- 8+ years of experience in Information Technology is required
- 3+ years of experience in Microsoft 365 Administration is required

As part of our COVID-19 response, this position may currently be offering partial or full remote work. However, in the near future this position will require full or partial on-site work.
