Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.The Vascular Surgery Service at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their inpatient team of board certified vascular surgeons. The Vascular Surgery team at PPMC is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for both chronic and acute conditions such as carotid stenosis, aortic aneurysms/dissections, peripheral arterial disease, critical limb ischemia, visceral artery aneurysms, median arcuate ligament syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome. In addition to the above, you will gain exposure to unique aspects of our vascular surgery service including but not limited to our Penn Program for Advanced Limb Preservation (PennPALP).
As an Advanced Practitioner (APP) on this service you will be an integral part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex and critically ill vascular surgery patients. Responsibilities for the APP who joins our team will include inpatient management of both pre and post-operative patients, clinical decision making, procedures according to credentialing, complex discharge planning, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. The APP will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with collaborating/supervising physicians, surgical residents, anesthesia interns, APPs, nursing staff, and other members of the care team. Further, the APP will be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice. Opportunities for professional growth and development are encouraged through research, lecturing, precepting, as well as through departmental and hospital projects and committees.
All ACNPs and PA-C’s function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CRNP or PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
Schedule: 4 10-hour shifts
Position Requirements / Credentials:
· Master’s prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
· Pennsylvania licensure and certification as an ACNP or PA-C
· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
· Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
· BLS/CPR as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (for providers in the ambulatory setting) (Required)
· Certified Nurse Practitioner PA (Required)
· Registered Nurse – PA (Required)
· PA Prescriptive Authority (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
· Master of Arts or Science (Required)
· Education specialization: Master’s Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing
· 1+ year of experience preferred
· APPs must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
