Summary:
- The Wound Care Technician performs a variety of duties related to the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. The Wound Care Technician will provide medical support to the clinical team. In addition, the Wound Care Technician will assist with the front desk registration area as needed. The Wound Care Technician will be responsible for entering facility charges, schedule ancillary testing and update patient information in the EMR. The position will also be responsible for normal maintenance of office equipment and ordering of all medical supplies as directed.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the RN by collecting, recording, and reporting age specific data that includes: Heart Rate, Pulse Oximetry and Blood Pressure.
- Assists with wound photography and measurements. Assures data is complete, accurate and comprehensive.
- Promptly reports unusual observations or changes in patient condition/behavior.
- Completes all aspects of patient care including age-appropriate techniques for ADL’s, mobility, transfers, positioning, hygiene, toileting, and correct application of orthosis/prosthesis, and use of adaptive devices.
- Completes unit tasks such as cleaning exam areas, sterile instrument processing, and transporting patients.
- Assists with Proper lifting and handling of patients and equipment.
- End of clinic trash removal and sharps containers are reviewed.
- Order and maintain inventory of Clinical Supply for the department.
- Receiving referrals as needed for patients. Verifying patient coverage.
- Communicating with primary care physician and/or insurance company as needed to obtain authorization for initial visit.
- Copying documentation for hospital billing department and attending wound center physician/s.
- Identifying the need for additional visits before the current time or number of visits expires.
- Sending clinical information and photographs (as needed) to appropriate insurance company with request for an extension of visit numbers or time.
- On receipt of extension, documenting authorization information in the EMR.
- Entering all updates within Penn Chart for patient access AHQI registration completion.
- Answering phone, greeting customers, route calls to appropriate staff, schedule patient appointments.
- Obtaining insurance information from customers, obtaining insurance verification for services.
- Coordinating Patient Ancillary Testing with other hospital departments.
- Entering patient charges and verifying charges, reconciling charges as directed in hospital system.
- Completing all Pennchart documentation.
- Maintaining office equipment (ordering as appropriate)
Credentials:
- CPR Required
- EMT Certification Preferred
- Medical Assistant Preferred
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
- 2+ years Patient care experience or Medical Office experience.
