Summary:
- The Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation (CHTI) facilitates the rapid, disciplined development, testing, implementation, and scale of new strategies to reimagine health care delivery for dramatically better outcomes, value, experience, and equity. The Center provides an exciting and fast-paced opportunity for motivated, entrepreneurial individuals to effect systemic change at Penn Medicine and across the health care industry. The Senior Director of Innovation and Transformation is responsible for leading our Center's operational strategy and managing our innovation management, data services, and communications teams in executing, evaluating, and communicating the Center's portfolio. This includes engaging, mentoring, and managing people leaders (directly and indirectly) across the Center, managing a team of 3+ direct reports and their respective teams, and partnering closely with executive leaders to align the Center's operating models with the health system's mission and goals. This role will establish and manage Center-wide operations, strategy, tools, and vision in close partnership with other operational leaders, including cross-center operating, intake, collaboration, and communication mechanisms, portfolio performance management, staffing and allocation, personnel management, and stakeholder engagement. The Sr. Director will also be responsible for establishing and managing a people innovation strategy, focused on helping staff grow professionally in their desired path and become more effective in generating material outcomes, facilitating data-driven continuous improvement of center processes, and ensuring the center operates in an intentional, accountable, equitable, and inclusive manner. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization. The Sr. Director must have the ability to develop and cultivate senior executive and peer stakeholder relationships, lead projects, evaluate outcomes, conduct economic analyses and craft business cases, manage and develop staff, and refine and extend the Center's approach to sourcing and operationalizing new strategies to reimagine health care delivery at scale. The Senior Director of Innovation and Transformation must have the ability to make key decisions, think creatively, build capacity in others, and be disciplined in interpreting project/program outcomes to direct future strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Strategy and Vision: Evolve portfolio intake, execution, and performance management strategies that align with the health care system's mission and goals. Define a compelling vision for the future of health care delivery and transformation. Define, develop, evaluate, and pilot new workflows and practice models for use of innovation and transformation methodologies in care delivery at the health system.
- Cross-Functional and Team Leadership: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including clinicians, engineers, designers, operational leaders, and data scientists, to drive innovation and transformation at scale across the health system, ensuring that solutions are both effective and sustainable. Build and lead high-performance project management, data, and communication teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for team members. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, executives, patients/caregivers and operational stakeholders to gather insights, validate innovation and transformation concepts, and ensure their successful adoption through sustainable business models.
- Cross-Center Operating Model: Establish and oversee Center operations, strategy, tools, and vision in close partnership with other operational leaders, including cross-center operating, intake, collaboration, and communication mechanisms, portfolio performance management, staffing and allocation, personnel management, stakeholder engagement Cross-Center People Innovation: Establish and oversee the Center’s people innovation program, including survey development and administration, continuous process improvement, performance management toolkit development, professional development program development, cross-training and skill-building curriculum development, DEIA program management.
- Project Management: Lead strategic projects. Oversee the end-to-end project execution lifecycle, from ideation to scale, ensuring timely delivery with clear metrics of success.
- Portfolio Management: Allocate resources effectively to achieve strategic goals. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of projects and initiatives, and regularly report on progress to senior leadership. Engage and align key operational stakeholders across Penn Medicine on objectives and approaches to scaling innovation/transformation projects, as well as developing ROI and business models for sustainability.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- Master of Arts or Science (Preferred)
- And 10+ years Professional or equivalent experience in a related field (Required)
- Experience in data management and analysis (Required)
