Summary:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, coordination of all operational activities for a clinical service line. This includes collaboration with the OR Nurse Manager, Attending Surgeons and other surgical staff, Instrument Processing Manager, Materials Management staff and vendors to develop and manage all aspects of patient care, utilization of departmental personnel, fiscal responsibility and material resources.
Responsibilities:
• Assumes overall accountability for their service line(s). Delegate’s responsibility in their absence.
• Supports excellence in patient care as clinical expert within the service line(s). Is a resource to nurses and surgical technologists, as well as support staff. Shares knowledge and mentors team.
• Collaborates with Education Team on clinical assignments for new staff.
• Exhibits leadership qualities in problem solving, setting priorities, and clinical excellence.
• Plans for surgical cases within the defined service line(s). This includes preference card and EMR review, as well as surgeon and vendor representative communication to ensure all supplies, equipment, and personnel are available for elective and emergent surgical cases.
• Is proactive in response to all queries, staff issues and clinical issues.
• Actively participates in departmental quality initiatives.
• Provides feedback in assessment of personnel as related to fulfillment of job expectations.
• Insures efficient and effective operations through compliance with institutional and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Identifies scheduling conflicts and resolves proactively.
• Is aware of financial needs of their service line and collaborates with nurse manager to ensure timely closure of cases.
• Supports the shared governance mode.
• Functions as a surgical technologist when required.
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
