Job Title: Senior Speech Pathologist
Department: Neurology Administration
Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - 3400 Spruce St
Entity: CPUP
Hours: Mon-Fri office hours per department needs
Summary: The Senior Speech Pathologist in the Department of Neurology will be responsible for both clinical and research duties. They will provide detailed diagnostic interpretations, recommendations, and therapeutic services to adults suffering from speech, language, and swallowing difficulties caused by neurologic disease. The emphasis will be on assessment of speech and language and intervention with cognitive impairments within the Department of Neurology. The successful candidate will work well as a team player and participate in outreach/education for patients and physicians. They will also be expected to help train student interns and residents, give presentations, participate on research teams, and assist the director/supervisor with their tasks and responsibilities. The Speech Pathologist position will work under clinical direction of the chief of the neuropsychology division
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate outpatients with speech and language difficulties and dysphagia via clinical evaluations and instrumental studies - Videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS)
- Provide mentorship in the area(s) of expertise
- Perform patient evaluations/consultations and interpret results to patient and /or family/caregiver and/or to a referral source.
- Evaluate and provide appropriate speech/language/cognitive and swallowing treatment in neurologic diseases such as aphasia, neurodegenerative disease.
- Participate in research related activities.
- Evaluate and manage Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for patients with communication difficulties.
- Provide counseling to patients and family members in Specialized Skills Group regarding communication/swallowing in neurologic disease.>
Education and Experience:
- Masters Degree and CCC in Speech Language Pathology or Clinical Doctorate in Speech Language Pathology (SLP-D)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in one or more areas of the Specialized Skills Group
- Meets continuing education requirements for licensure
- Completes 10 hours continuing education in one or more specialized skills group areas every 2 years
