Summary:

  • The Exercise Physiologist will provide coverage in a variety of care settings. The position works with a multidisciplinary group of staff members requiring flexibility and adaptability to follow established program goals and protocols. Responsibilities include exercise and pharmacologic stress testing on adult inpatient and outpatient populations, holter monitor setup and analysis, holter monitor report preparation for cardiologist interpretation, blood pressure monitor setup and analysis, as well as perform inpatient and outpatient EKG's. The Exercise Physiologist is also responsible for coordinating a multidisciplinary treatment plan to meet the clinical and educational needs of heart patients, families, and patients at risk for cardiovascular disease and patients with peripheral artery disease. A wide variety of internal and external professional relationships are involved in performance of the duties of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform exercise and nuclear stress tests on inpatient and outpatient populations. Demonstrate the use of testing equipment, protocol selection, indications and contraindications, and termination criteria for exercise testing. Demonstrate mastery in use of metabolic stress testing calibration and interpretation.
  • Analyze holter monitor ECG data to create a report for the physician. Analyze information in the patient’s diary to identify incidents that correspond to health pattern irregularities detected on the holter monitor. Identify irregularities in the patient’s cardiac rhythm and utilize knowledge of cardiac rhythms to verify the data that is provided by the holter scanning software. Evaluate holter scan for physician notification criteria. Meet performance productivity standards as noted in the ramp up process once initial training is complete. Complete all assigned/required training, while staying up to date on developing clinical knowledge, specifically ECG rhythm interpretation.
  • Hookup and analyze 24-hour BP monitors.
  • Perform adult and pediatric ECGs on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Coordinate care with nursing staff and other disciplines for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients. Assists RN in routine daily operations of exercise room including but not limited to monitoring of vital signs as indicated, assisting patients on and off exercise equipment as needed and counseling of patients. Participates in the patients’ interdisciplinary plan of care, working in collaboration with RN in evaluation of patient progress toward expected outcomes. Participates in the education plan for patients and families. Documents patient assessments, plan of care and interventions in the medical record. Provides individual and group education to clients according to the needs assessed by the primary nurse. Assists in the education and training of clients and staff in proper exercise technique and equipment functions. Participates in a minimum of 4 mock code in-services with Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Staff.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for efficient utilization of products, resources, supplies, equipment and department space.
  • Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the Medical Center and collaborates with other staff to enhance patient care and service.
  • Maintains standards of confidentiality.
  • Possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients’ physical, psychological and social needs with those growth and development levels/patient populations served within the department.
  • Participates in unit compliance as related to established standards.
  • Proficiency using a computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • comfortable using telephone and computer to perform job responsibilities
  • CRAT/CCT certification within 12 months of employment

Credentials:

  • Certified Cardiographic Technician
  • Cert Rhythm Analysis Tech

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science
