Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines.The Otorhinolaryngology Department (ENT) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) who has an First Assist certification or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team of board certified surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers. The ENT team at HUP is part of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and provides care to patients undergoing elective head and neck reconstructive surgery for complex cancers of the head and neck structures, as well as general ENT procedures (including sinus surgery, vocal cord repair, CSF repairs, skull-based tumor resections, etc.) This unique role will not only assist on the inpatient service but will help to see new consults directed towards the ENT service from the Emergency Department and inpatient services, as well as assist in the operating room when needed. As an NP/PA on this service you will be part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex and critically ill ENT patients. Responsibilities for the NP/PA who joins our team will include inpatient management, clinical decision making, procedures according to credentialing, complex discharge planning and transitions in care, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. In addition, the provider will participate in research as applicable, ensure regulatory compliance, document care according to standards, and prescribe in accordance with their collaborative agreement and State regulations.
The NP/PA, will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team, and be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Department’s Quality Improvement initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Leadership (UBCL) Tracheostomy Collaborative. Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.
Schedule: M-F either 10 or 12H position; some weekends or nights may be required by the department
All ACNPs and PA-C’s function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CRNP or PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
